Gha s, excep endemic He acleum dalgadianum S.M.Almeida
has been ans e ed o Te a aenium (DC.) Manden. Th ough
mo phological and ca pological analysis, we p opose i s new
combina ion in Te a aenium.

He acleum L. is a widesp ead, axonomically complex
genus es ablished by Linnaeus (1753), wi h a na i e
ange in he empe a e no he n hemisphe e, No hwes
A ica, E i ea, and Malawi (POWO, 2024). The
genus was assigned o he Apiaceae ( ibe Peucedaneae;
sub ibe To dyliinae) by D ude (1898). Pimeno and
Leono (1993) mo ed i o he ibe To dylieae and
he ecen molecula phylogene ic analysis (Downie e
al., 2001; Ajani e al., 2008) con i med his ea men .
Candolle (1830) assigned six sec ions in He acleum,
iz., sec . Te a aenium DC., sec . Euhe acleum DC. nom.
illeg. (=sec . He acleum), sec . Sphondylium (Mill.)DC.,
sec . Ca melia DC., sec . Wend ia (Ho m.) DC., and
sec . T ichogonium DC. Candolle’s sec . Te a aenium is
cha ac e ized by yellow symme ic lowe s wi h equal
pe als and by he p esence o addi ional ubules on he
ui s, and consis ed o h ee species, iz. He acleum
nepalense D.Don, H. ob usi olium Wall. ex DC., and H.
igens Wall. ex DC. Mandeno a (1959) ele a ed his
sec ion o a genus Te a aenium (DC.) Manden. wi h
i e species, iz., Te a aenium hooke ianum (Wigh
& A n.) Manden., T. nepalense (D.Don) Manden., T.
olgae (Regel & Schmalh.) Manden., T. igens (Wall. ex
DC.) Manden., and T. sp engelianum (Wigh & A n.)
Manden.

genus is also cha ac e ized by i s ca pological ea u es
which include la ge-keeled do sal me ica p ibs wi h
e y wide ma ginal wings, 1–3 allecula i ae,
do sal and commissu al i ae o equal leng h ( a ely
sub equal), and 2–6 commissu al i ae, ex ending c.
2/3 o 3/4 as long as me ica p as opposed o ili o m
do sal me ica p ibs, single allecula i ae, do sal
and commissu al i ae o unequal leng h, and 2
commissu al i ae, ex ending c. 1/4 o 1/2 as long
as me ica p (some imes absen ) in He acleum (Yu e
al., 2011; Liu & Downie, 2017; Plunke e al., 2018;
Kljuyko e al., 2019). Cauwe -Ma c e al. (1982) and
Mandeno a (1986, 1987, 1991, 1995) ans e ed 19
species o Te a aenium. La e wo mo e species we e
desc ibed by Kljuyko e al. (2019) and Wang e al.
(2021) espec i ely. Among hem, T. candicans (Wall.
ex DC.) Manden., T. ob usi olium (Wall. ex DC.)
Manden., T. pinna um (C.B.Cla ke) Manden. a e
cu en ly ea ed unde he genus He acleum while
T. himalayense Manden. (=T. canescens (Lindl.)
Manden.), T. candolleanum (Wigh & A n.) Manden.
and T. ligus ici olium (Wigh & A n.) Manden.
(=T. igens (Wall. ex DC.) Manden.) a e ea ed as

(1993), Wa son (1999), and Pu and Wa son (2005).

Howe e , he molecula in es iga ions o Logache a
e al. (2010) and Yu e al. (2011) con i med he
dis inc i eness o Te a aenium, which was ollowed
subsequen ly by di e en au ho s (Pimeno , 2017;
Plunke e al., 2018; Xiao e al., 2018). The genus
is dis ibu ed along he Himalayas, he Wes e n
Gha s, S i Lanka, I an, China, and Cen al Asia
(Mandeno a, 1959, 1987; Pimeno & Kljuyko ,
2002; Xiao e al., 2018), and cu en ly includes 21
species (Xiao e al., 2018; POWO, 2024).

li e a u e e ealed ha H. dalgadianum was known
only om i s ype collec ion. A c i ical analysis o
he ype specimen housed a BLAT e ealed ha
H. dalgadianum has symme ic lowe s wi h yellow
pe als, long sec e o y duc s and schizoca p wi h
wide ma ginal wings, la ge do sal ibs, equal leng h
o commissu al and do sal i ae, ag eeing wi h
Te a aenium. Hence a new combina ion is made
he e unde he genus Te a aenium.
