supply and was ewa e and s o m wa e managemen .
This manual in oduces a global amewo k, key p inciples
and concep s and he main challenges and oppo uni ies.
This is Volume I o a se ies o manuals de eloped in scope o
he TRUST p ojec (www. us -i.ne ). The o he olumes
include speci ic guidelines o policy-making a a na ional o
egional le el (Manual 2) and o s a egic and ac ical
planning a he u ili y le el (Manuals 3 and 4) as well as a
po o olio o ehabili a ion echniques used in supply pipes
and s o age anks and d ainage sys ems (Manuals 5 and 6).

simpli ied example o a common si ua ion in many u ili ies in
he wo ld.

sus ainable, pipes would need o las a leas 200 yea s, which
is no ealis ic. Assuming he li e expec ancy o 50 yea s and
cu en pipes age o 40 yea s, wi hin 14 yea s he u ili y will
