Me hods
Male abbi s made ole an o he hypo ensi e esponse o
30 μg/kg in a enous ni oglyce in (NG) by a p eceding
one-week exposu e o ansde mal NG (0.07 mg/kg/h)
we e subjec ed o 35 min co ona y occlusion ( es
ischemia) ollowed by 3 h o epe usion wi h he ollow-
ing addi ional in e en ions: no in e en ion (NI); pos -
condi ioning pacing (PPC): i e cycles o 5 min pe iods o
apid en icula pacing (500 b.p.m.), o pos condi ion-
ing co ona y occlusion (PCO): i e cycles o 5 min co o-
na y occlusion wi h 10 min in e pacing/in e occlusion
in e als, applied a e he end o he es ischemia. These
p o ocols we e applied in bo h ni a e- ole an and non-
ole an animals. In a c size exp essed as a pe cen age o
a ea a isk (I/R) was de e mined by iphenyl e azolium
chlo ide s aining, le en icula cyclic nucleo ides we e
de e mined by adioimmunoassay om samples ou o
he a ea a isk, 75 min a e he es ischemia.
Resul s
In non- ole an animals bo h PPC and PCO educed he
I/R compa ed o he NI g oup. When animals had been
made ni a e- ole an , he I/R was signi ican ly highe in
he NI g oup compa ed wi h non- ole an animals and
he bene icial e ec o he PPC o PCO on he I/R disap-
pea ed.
Conclusion
We conclude ha (i) ni a e ole ance blocks pos condi-
ioning induced by ei he PPC o PCO, (ii) PPC is mo e
e ec i e pos -condi ioning challenge han PCO, and (iii)
ni a e ole ance pe se educes he capabili y o he hea
o ole a e an ischemic insul .
