heo e ical amewo ks. A compa a i e analysis was applied o highligh

The main dis inc ion be ween equi alence and adequacy is ha equi alence is based
on li e al ansla ion, whe eas adequacy ocuses on main aining he meaning and
pu pose o he ex . While equi alen ansla ion may some imes esul in he loss o
he o iginal meaning, adequa e ansla ion p ese es he meaning and s yle o he ex .
Fo example, in scien i ic o echnical ansla ions, equi alence is mo e commonly
applied, as p ecision and wo d- o -wo d ansla ion a e o u mos impo ance. In
con as , adequacy is p e e able o li e a y ansla ions, whe e p ese ing s yle and
meaning is essen ial. Achie ing he igh balance be ween equi alence and adequacy
is c ucial in he ansla ion p ocess. T ansla o s should u ilize bo h me hods, as some

cen u y, expanding i s ocus om p ac ical ansla ion o heo e ical explo a ions o
ex ypes, equi alence, and cul u al ans e . Bo h disciplines, howe e , con e ge in
hei eliance on linguis ic analysis and hei con ibu ion o applied language sciences.
