1.3 Wha is Quali y Physical Educa ion
(QPE)?
Quali y Physical Educa ion (QPE) s ands o a
comp ehensi e app oach o p omo ing physical ac i i y
h ough schools and is based on na ional s anda ds ha
de ine wha lea ne s should know and be able o do.
QPE emphasizes he knowledge and skills o a li e ime
o physical ac i i y and helps lea ne s o de elop he
beha io s, a i udes and con idence needed o be
physically ac i e o li e. All child en should pa icipa e
in quali y PE. The philosophy o QPE ep esen s an
inclusion and ac i a ion among all lea ne s, by keeping
hem ac i e o mos o he class pe iods and mee ing
he needs o all schoolchild en, especially hose who
a e no a hle ically gi ed. QPE p o ides an in ensi e
ins uc ion in he mo o and sel -managemen skills o
enjoy a wide a ie y o physical ac i i y expe iences,
including compe i i e and non-compe i i e ac i i ies.

The KaziKidz eaching ma e ial – a holis ic educa ional
and ins uc ional ool o p e-p ima y and p ima y

aims o con ibu e o li elong physical ac i i y among
lea ne s. I a ose om he p ojec KaziBan u. Kazi means
‘ac i e’ in Swahili and Ban u means ‘people’ in Xhosa,
wo o he na ional languages o Sou h A ica. Th ough
he implemen a ion o Physical Educa ion (PE), Mo ing-
o-Music, Heal h-and-Hygiene and Nu i ion educa ion
lessons he oolki aims o enhance child en’s o e all
heal h in disad an aged Sou h A ican and Namibian
p ima y schools. This KaziKidz eaching ma e ial consis s
o lesson plans wi hin each o he a o e-men ioned
con en pilla s. The lessons ha e been designed in
conjunc ion wi h he Namibian cu iculum and a e
suppo ed by he Na ional Ins i u e o Educa ional
De elopmen (NIED), Okahandja, Namibia, and he

The aim is o lead lea ne s h ough con en , games and

While neglec ed opical diseases (NTDs) do no

popula ions, especially in child en g owing up in poo
