G aphene is a wo-dimensional ca bon nanoma e ial, consis ing o sp2 hyb idized
ca bon a oms, o ganized in a honeycomb hexagonal c ys al la ice [1]. Due o hei
ex ao dina y physical and chemical p ope ies such as high elec ical conduc i i yo 106
cm2 V−1s−1, Young’s module close o 1 TPa, as well as la ge su ace a ea (2630 m2 g–1),
hey a ac he a en ion o esea che s om science owa d indus y.
G aphene can be p oduced by di e en echniques such as chemical syn hesis,
chemical, mechanical o elec ochemical ex olia ion, he mal annealing, e c. Syn hesis o
g aphene in ha way usually includes he consump ion o comme cially a ailablechemicals.
To a oid disad an ages, esea che s de eloped me hods based on biomass and bio-was e
ma e ials o g aphene syn hesis [2]. Wi hin hese p ocedu es, s a ing ma e ials o
g aphene syn hesis a e wood pa s [3], ag icul u al was e[4], ui s[5],and many o he s[2].
The main p inciple o g aphene ab ica ion om biomass-de i ed sou ces consis s o hei
py olysis unde an ine a mosphe e. Py olysis can be occu ed on Cu suppo , in he p esence
o some ac i a ion agen s such as base and sal s, o in hyd o he mal condi ions. Ac i a ion
agen s lead o cu ing, po e o ma ion, and s a ing ma e ial ex olia ion. KOH is an o en
used agen o ac i a ion. K+ om KOH eac s wi h g aphi e mic oc ys als du ing he
eac ion by ans e ing a cha ge o he [g aphene-H]- complex. H a oms became emo ed
om he complex, which cause he o ma ion o sp2 a oms. Also, he p esence o KOH
eleased CO2 in eac ion pene a es be ween g aphene laye s, sepa a ing hem, and
inc easing he su ace o he ma e ial [2].
Apple and p oduc s made o hem a e he mos consumed ui and p oduc s all o e
he wo ld [6]. Acco ding o he Minis y o Ag icul u e, Fo es y and Wa e Economy o he
Republic o Se bia da a, 26.1 x 106 L o ui alcohol d inks including apple-based ones,
we e p oducedin 2021[7]. La ge amoun s o solid and liquid apple was es a e gene a ed
du ing he apple p ocessing [6]. Pe each li e o p oduced ui alcohol, a ound 8–15 L o
was ewa e (s illage) is p oduced. Due o high biodeg adabili y, ha was e has become a
g ea en i onmen al p oblem. Mos o he was e goes o land ill, is bu ned, and con ibu e
o an inc ease in he amoun o g eenhouse gases. I also eaches aqua ic ecosys ems, causing
hei eu ophica ion. Apple biomass and bio-was e we e in es iga ed as s a ca bon ma e ial
o g aphene p oduc ion in many epo ed esea ches [8, 9].
In his s udy, g aphene-like ma e ial was syn hesized om biomass ob ained
du ing he apple alcohol d ink p epa a ion p ocess. Raw biowas e was d ied o he powde
and mixed wi h KOH pas illes o c ea e a homogenous powde . Then, he mix u e was
hea ed in he u nace a 850 °C o 1 hou , unde an a mosphe e o ine gas. A e hea ing,
he ma e ial was washed om KOH, un il pH eached neu al. The s uc u e o p oduced
ma e ial was in es iga ed using in a ed spec oscopy wi h Fou ie ans o ma ion (FTIR)
and Raman spec oscopy. The s uc u al analysis con i med he p esence o he g aphene
domains in biomass-de i ed ma e ial.

ab ica ion. Thanks o low p ices, eco- iendly, sus ainable, and simple app oach, as well as
inc easing g aphene ma ke , he p esen ed me hod has a huge po en ial o become an
