Lawand & Shimpale, 2021). In ligh o his, we

ea ing A gy eia as a sepa a e genus. This dis inc ion
is suppo ed by clea mo phological di e ences and
a numbe o p ominen ea u es ha di e en ia e
A gy eia om i s allied gene a (Lawand & Shimpale,
2021). Addi ionally, he wo gene a a e clea ly
sepa a ed by hei geog aphical dis ibu ion and
cy ogene ic e idences (Sampa hkuma & Ayyanga ,
1981; Mabbe ley, 2018).

o Manjolai, Ti unel eli dis ic , Tamil Nadu.
The specimens we e examined using ele an
axonomic li e a u es (Hooke , 1885; Gamble, 1925;
Ka hikeyan e al., 2009; Naya e al., 2014; Lawand
e al., 2019; Shalini e al., 2020; Lawand & Shimpale,

The genus A gy eia Lou . (Con ol ulaceae) is
na i e o con inen al Asia, almos all axa p ima ily
dis ibu ed ac oss he opical and sub opical
egions o sou heas Asia, China, and he Indian
subcon inen , comp ising app oxima ely 143
species (S aples & T aipe m, 2017; T aipe m &
Suddee, 2020; POWO, 2024). Among hese, only
ou species a e con ined o Madagasca wi h
disjunc dis ibu ion (De oin, 2001). In India, he
genus is ep esen ed by 40 species o which 17
a e endemic (Lawand, 2019; Lawand e al., 2019).

he egion (Naya e al., 2014). Recen ly, Lawand
e al. (2019) conduc ed a axonomic e ision o
A gy eia om India. Since hen, couple o new
species we e desc ibed om he Wes e n Gha s
o India: A. lakshmina asimhanii S. Shalini, Sujana,

Mo phologically simila o A. ulgens Choisy bu can be
easily dis inguished om 2–2.5 cm long pe iole ( s. 3–7
cm long), a co da e lamina base ( s. ounded), a hai y
abaxial su ace o he lamina ( s. glab ous), 12 seconda y
eins ( s. 18–22), 10–12- lowe ed in lo escence ( s.
5–7- lowe ed), 3 b ac s ( s. 2), subequal o unequal
sepals ( s. equal) and a co olla ube ha is pale pu ple a
he base and milky whi e a he h oa ( s. da k pu ple
h oughou ). A de ailed mo phological compa ison is
p o ided in Table 1.

g oo ed; lamina o a e, 5.6–6.8 × 4–4.5 cm, base

shiny omen ose abaxially, seconda y eins 12
pai s, aised p ominen ly below. In lo escence an
axilla y, 10–12- lowe ed, capi a e cyme; peduncles
2.5 cm long, g een, hai y like s em, sligh ly longe
han pe ioles. B ac s 3; ou e b ac oblong-
lanceola e, 2–2.5 × 0.6 cm; inne wo lanceola e o
alca e, 1.5–1.8 × 0.4 cm, densely se iceous ou side,
excep o e lapped a eas, hai y inside, minu ely

Flowe s subsessile; pedicels c. 0.2 cm long, hai y.
Sepals 5, o a e-lanceola e, subequal o unequal;
ou e wo na ow, 1–1.2 × c. 0.4 cm; inne h ee
b oad, c. 0.6 × 0.5 cm, ma gins en i e, hyaline, apex
acu e, glab ous inside, se iceous all o e ou side

and deposi ed in he SGH, The depa men o
Bo any, The Madu a College, Madu ai. Au ho s
ha e gene a ed he dis ibu ion map using QGIS
e . 3.32.3 (QGIS De elopmen Team, 2022), based
on geocoo dina es o collec ion locali ies. The A ea
o Occupancy (AOO) and Ex en o Occu ence
(EOO) we e es ima ed using GeoCAT (Bachman e
al., 2011), and a p o isional conse a ion s a us was
assessed acco ding o he IUCN Red Lis Ca ego ies
and C i e ia (IUCN, 2024).
