bioa ailabili y, and ease o use o pa ien s.
Ma e ials and Me hods: Subjec o s udy: an an idiabe ic d ug (e.g., me o min o glimepi ide)
as a model subs ance. Excipien s: ille s (mic oc ys alline cellulose, lac ose), lub ican s and binde s
( alc, s a ch), capsule shells (gela in and HPMC capsules).
Resul s: An op imal capsule composi ion was selec ed using excipien s ha imp o e powde
lowabili y and d ug s abili y. An encapsula ion echnology was de eloped ha ensu es uni o m
dosing and compliance wi h pha macopoeial equi emen s. The s abili y o he esul ing dosage o m
unde s anda d s o age condi ions was demons a ed. The esul ing capsules a e cha ac e ized by
con olled elease o he ac i e ing edien , which con ibu es o inc eased he apeu ic e icacy.
Conclusions: 1. A echnology o p oducing capsules con aining an an idiabe ic d ug was
de eloped and expe imen ally alida ed. 2. The esul s demons a e high s abili y, biopha maceu ical
accep abili y, and ease o use o his dosage o m. 3. The use o capsules inc eases he e ec i eness
o an idiabe ic he apy and imp o es pa ien compliance.
