2008, he numbe o de ma ological p oduc s p esc ibed by physicians in he Uni ed S a es exceeded
320 million. This end highligh s he ele ance o inno a ions in cosme ic and pha maceu ical
p oduc s. Ca hamus inc o ius L. (sa lowe ) lowe s a e ich in la onoids, ca o enoids, phenolic
compounds, alkaloids, essen ial oils, and o he phy ochemicals, and ha e long been used in adi ional
medicine. This plan ex ac is ecognized as a highly biologically ac i e componen in cosme ology.
Aim o he S udy. The p ima y objec i e o his s udy was o de elop a cosme ic c eam based
on Ca hamus inc o ius L. lowe ex ac , o de e mine i s op imal composi ion, and o e alua e i s
quan i a i e pa ame e s.
Me hods and Resul s. Wi hin he scope o he esea ch, c eams wi h di e en o mula ions
we e p epa ed using sa lowe lowe ex ac , and hei physicochemical p ope ies we e in es iga ed.
Two o mula ions we e analyzed: • Fo mula 1: 2.0 g ex ac , 5.0 g aseline, 5.0 g ama an h oil, 7.0
g lanolin, and 1.0 g pu i ied wa e . • Fo mula 2: 2.0 g ex ac , 5.75 g ama an h oil, 5.75 g sun lowe
oil, 4.5 g wax, 0.6 g Tween-80, and 1.4 g pu i ied wa e .

acco dance wi h pha macopoeial equi emen s. The pH alue was de e mined acco ding o Eu 2.2.3
using he po en iome ic me hod. Fo his pu pose, 1% solu ions o each c eam we e p epa ed by
dissol ing 1 g o c eam in a 100 ml olume ic lask illed up o he ma k wi h pu i ied wa e and
hea ed o 80°C. A e cooling o oom empe a u e and il e ing, he pH alues we e measu ed
po en iome ically.

demons a ed ha bo h o mula ions exhibi ed good s abili y and we e sui able o use. Mo eo e , he
p esence o ama an h oil in he c eam composi ion was ound o play an impo an ole in enhancing
biological ac i i y. In he nex phase, he de ma ological p ope ies and he apeu ic e ec i eness o
hese c eams will be in es iga ed.
