Pu pose o he s udy: As agalus ( amily Leguminosae) is a la ge genus widesp ead in
empe a e egions o he wo ld, mainly in Eu asia and No h Ame ica. As agalus has been used in
Cen al Asian adi ional medicine o cen u ies o ea kidney and bladde s ones. Phy ochemical
s udies o As agalus species ha e led o he isola ion and iden i ica ion o i e penoid saponins,
la onoids, phenylp opanoids, alkaloids and some o he compounds. In e ms o medicinal use and
scien i ic esea ch, ou scien i ic wo k ocuses on he isola ion o biologically ac i e subs ances om
he As agalus alopecias Pall. species o he As agalus genus.
As agalus alopecias Pall. - locally known as Tulkikabi as agal, is sp ead ou in Cen al Asia
(Tian-Shan, Pami -Alay, Kope dog), A ghanis an, I an, and Pakis an. I is a pe ennial plan g owing
o 40-80 cm all and lowe ing om May o June. Based on he esul s o he li e a u e e iew and
examina ion, i was ound ha he e is almos no a ailable in o ma ion abou he chemical
componen s o his species. We con inued ou sea ch o na u al compounds in he As agalus genus
by s udying he ae ial pa s o A. alopecias collec ed om Boysun og (Su khanda ya egion,
Uzbekis an).
Me hods and echniques: Thin laye ch oma og aphy o he me hanol ex ac o A. alopecias
e ealed he p esence o se e al la onoids and i e pene glycosides in he plan . P ocessing o he
me hanol ex ac wi h e hyl ace a e yielded he e hyl ace a e ac ion. This ac ion was subjec ed o
mul iple column ch oma og aphy o isola e he iso la ones ononine (C22H22O9) (1) and daidzein
(C15H10O4) (2). The me hanol ex ac was ea ed wi h bu anol o ob ain a bu anol ac ion. This
ac ion was subjec ed o mul iple column ch oma og aphy o iden i y he glycoside cycloalpioside
D (C35H58O9) (3).
Resul s: The chemical s uc u e o he subs ances was de e mined by mass and NMR spec a.
This subs ance was p e iously isola ed om some As agalus species. I was i s iden i ied om A.
alopecias.
Conclusions: Fo he i s ime, h ee seconda y me aboli es we e isola ed om A. alopecias.
