Rele ance. Filipendulous ya ow (Achillea ilipendulina Lam.) is a pe ennial he baceous plan
widely dis ibu ed in Cen al and Sou hwes Asia. Plan s o he Achillea genus ha e adi ionally been
used in olk and mode n medicine due o hei high con en o biologically ac i e compounds. O
pa icula in e es is he essen ial oil o A. ilipendulina, which exhibi s an ibac e ial, an imic obial,
an ioxidan , and an i-in lamma o y e ec s. Despi e he widesp ead use o he Achillea genus, he
essen ial oil o A. ilipendulina emains insu icien ly s udied, which de e mines he ele ance o i s
in es iga ion.
Objec i e o he s udy: To conduc a li e a u e e iew on he composi ion and pha macological
po en ial o he essen ial oil o Achillea ilipendulina, as well as o ou line he p ospec s o i s
applica ion in medicine and pha macy.
Ma e ials and me hods: The wo k is based on he analysis o published s udies on he
phy ochemical composi ion and biological ac i i y o he essen ial oil o Achillea ilipendulina. The
ollowing publica ions se ed as he main sou ces: In he s udy by S. Asnaasha i e al., esul s we e
p esen ed demons a ing he wide ange o biological ac i i ies o A. ilipendulina essen ial oil. The
au ho s iden i ied p onounced an ioxidan and an imala ial p ope ies; in addi ion, he oil showed
inhibi o y ac i i y agains he enzyme xan hine oxidase, highligh ing he p ospec s o u he
pha macological in es iga ion o he plan . The e iew by A.A. Manasso a e al. summa ized da a
on he use o Achillea species in adi ional medicine. I was es ablished ha ya ow has adi ionally
been applied in e hnopha maceu ical p ac ice as an an i-in lamma o y, an imic obial, and an ioxidan
agen . A s udy by he I anian au ho N. Salehi was de o ed o a de ailed analysis o he chemical
p o ile o essen ial oils ob ained om di e en plan o gans (s ems, lea es, lowe s). The esul s
showed ha he oils a e cha ac e ized by a high con en o mono e penes, while he p opo ion o
sesqui e penes was signi ican ly lowe , con i ming he leading ole o mono e pene compounds in
shaping he phy ochemical p o ile. Thus, he analysis o da a om di e en au ho s made i possible
o combine in o ma ion on he chemical composi ion, biological ac i i y, and adi ional use o A.
ilipendulina, p o iding a mo e comp ehensi e unde s anding o i s pha macological po en ial.
Resul s: Acco ding o he li e a u e, he essen ial oil o Achillea ilipendulina con ains a
signi ican amoun o e pene compounds (mono- and sesqui e penes) wi h an ioxidan and
an imic obial ac i i y. P omising di ec ions o he use o he oil as a na u al sou ce o subs ances
wi h an i-in lamma o y and an ibac e ial e ec s ha e been iden i ied.
Conclusion: The essen ial oil o ilipendulous ya ow is a p omising subjec o u he
esea ch. I s chemical composi ion and pha macological po en ial make i a aluable sou ce o
biologically ac i e compounds o p ac ical impo ance o medicine and pha macy.This s udy was
