This documen is he D2.2 "BBTs Assessmen Tool - 1". I p o ides an o e iew o he unc ionali ies
o he i s e sion o he Bio-Based Technologies (BBTs) Assessmen Tool and he ' e e ence' scena io
o each Rep esen ed Region (RR).
The BBTs Assessmen ool is p esen ed in he con ex o he p ojec , how i in e ac s wi h o he asks
such as he BBioNe s knowledge in en o y, he high-le el s udy on egional dynamics (T2.3), he
wo kshops held du ing T1.2 o iden i y egional needs and challenges, and he u u e wo kshops o be
held du ing T1.3 o he alida ion and p io i isa ion o bio-based echnologies (BBTs).
The main objec i e o he ool is o gene a e a p oposed p io i isa ion o he mos app op ia e BBT o
each RR using he mapped BBTs. The ool is designed so ha he mo e in o ma ion he use p o ides,
he mo e accu a e he esul s will be. In o he wo ds, he mo e accu a e he sugges ed p io i isa ion
o BBTs o each RR.
This epo comp ises six chap e s along wi h e e ences and is o ganised as ollows:
Chap e 1: In oduc ion which desc ibes issues conce ning deli e able scope, objec i es, how i is he
unc ion in he p ojec , and i b ie ly p esen s he s uc u e o deli e able.
Chap e 2: The con ex o he BBTs Assessmen ool which desc ibes how he BBTs Assessmen ool

Chap e 3: Me hodology: his sec ion has been w i en o explain how i wo ks, how he in o ma ion

has been de eloped using Powe Pi o wi hin he ool and i is explained how i is designed, how he
di e en ables a e buil , how hey ela e o each o he and a isual ep esen a ion o how i wo ks.
Chap e 4: Uses o he BBTs Assessmen ool: he “Re e ence” Scena io is explained, as well as how
o in e p e he esul s in a 2-D plo o cos -e ec i eness a iables.
Chap e 5: 'Re e ence' Scena ios in o ma ion: 'Re e ence' Scena ios each egion is collec ed and

2 Con ex o he BBTs Assessmen ool in he p ojec
The BBTs Assessmen ool is an Excel ile designed o consolida e da a om a ious BBioNe s esou ces
and analyse i h ough i s Powe Pi o engine. This p ocess enables he ma ching o he needs and
esou ces o he Rep esen ed Regions (RR) collec ed in T1.2 wi h he a ailable Bio-Based Technologies
(BBT) mapped in T2.1, wi h he gene a ion o a sugges ed p io i isa ion o he mos sui able BBTs o
said egion. The ool conside s bo h quan i a i e (in es men cos s, ope a ional cos s, p ocessing
capaci y, e c.) and quali a i e (added alue, p ocess complexi y, e c.) a iables o analyse cos /bene i
o each BBTs.
The ool has been designed in such a way ha he mo e in o ma ion he use p o ides, he mo e
accu a e he esul s will be. In o he wo ds, he mo e accu a e sugges ed p io i isa ion o BBTs would
be ob ained o each RR.
As illus a ed in Figu e 1, he BBTs Assessmen ool will commence by inco po a ing da a om asks
T1.2 and T2.1, namely he ou pu s o he Fo es y and ag icul u al Ne wo k (FAN) wo kshop and he
in en o y o BBTs. This in o ma ion, once in oduced in o he Excel ool, will acili a e he gene a ion
o a p elimina y lis wi h he sui abili y o he BBTs ound un il da e, conside ing he cu en esou ces
and needs o a single egion, o 'Re e ence' Scena io. A o al o six copies o he BBTs Assessmen ool
will be c ea ed, along wi h six dis inc Rep esen ed Region-Speci ic Scena ios (RR-Speci ic Scena ios).
These will con ain in o ma ion ha will assis pa ne s in iden i ying he BBTs ha a e mos needed in
each RR.

Once he ‘Re e ence’ Scena io has been gene a ed o each RR, he p ocess o p oducing he
Rep esen ed Region-Speci ic Scena ios will commence. To achie e his, he High-le el s udy o egional
dynamics (HLRD; T2.3) and he BBTs Assessmen ool (T2.2) will be employed in a p ocess o
in o ma ion sha ing. Ne e heless, he RR-speci ic scena ios would no be inalised un il hey ha e
unde gone wo le els o alida ion. Fi s ly, he FANs o each RR would alida e hem (T1.3). Secondly,
he BBioNe s Ad iso y Boa d would also gi e a alida ion. This alida ion will in oduce a weigh ing
ac o in he Excel ool, which will enable he ecalib a ion o he p e ious ou pu s. This will esul in
he gene a ion o a inal p io i isa ion lis o BBTs, comp ising a leas i e BBTs sui able o each RR.
Subsequen ly, hese ou pu s will be colla ed by T2.4 in a oadmap o he implemen a ion o he
p io i ised BBTs in each Rep esen ed Region.
