(Kulliya ul Muallimin Al-Islamiyah) Di ision, and o he ela ed pa ies.

supe ision. Based on he indings, academic supe ision plays a signi ican
ole in enhancing eache s’ p o essionalism a Mawa idussalam Islamic
Boa ding School, pa icula ly in eaching skills, pedagogy, discipline, and

schools and o he Islamic boa ding schools in an e o o imp o e he

INTRODUCTION
Educa ion is one o he mos essen ial aspec s o li e because i plays a signi ican ole in
shaping he quali y o human esou ces. Educa ion does no only unc ion as a means o
ans e ing knowledge bu also con ibu es o he de elopmen o cha ac e , skills, and c i ical
hinking abili ies o indi iduals. Acco ding o UNESCO (2020), quali y educa ion mus emphasize
he de elopmen o lea ne s’ abili ies o analyze, e alua e, and sol e p oblems. This indica es ha
mode n educa ion should no longe ocus solely on con en mas e y bu also on os e ing c i ical
hinking skills o add ess a ious p oblems and ace global challenges.

he Republic o Indonesia No. 14 o 2005 (as ci ed in Slame o, 2010), eache s a e equi ed no
only o mas e he subjec ma e bu also o possess pedagogical and p o essional compe encies,

lea ning p ocess. Na a Nu Bahaiyah (2023) s a ed ha he in eg a ion o echnology in 21s -
cen u y lea ning has become an essen ial pa o pedagogical compe ence o achie e sha ed

P e ious s udies ha e shown ha academic supe ision is an e ec i e s a egy o
imp o ing eache s’ p o essionalism and he quali y o lea ning. Diyan i and A ikah (2022)
e ealed ha well-s uc u ed academic supe ision can signi ican ly enhance eache s’
pedagogical compe ence. Acco ding o Mulyasa (2013), academic supe ision in ol es he
moni o ing, guidance, and e alua ion o eache s’ de elopmen and s uden s’ academic p og ess,
encompassing aspec s o lesson planning, implemen a ion, and e alua ion. Lalupanda (2019)
s a ed ha academic supe ision no only assis s eache s in planning and implemen ing
ins uc ion bu also in shaping s uden s’ cha ac e holis ically. This p ocess aims o imp o e
eache s’ compe encies and he quali y o class oom lea ning. Wi h p ope men o ing, eache s
can de elop hei p o essional quali y op imally. Such ac i i ies a e sys ema ically designed by
he p incipal and he academic supe ision eam. P a iwi e al. (2023) u he explained ha
academic supe ision ac i i ies a e ca ied ou h ough h ee main s ages: p e-obse a ion,
obse a ion, and pos -obse a ion—conduc ed by he p incipal and he in ol ed eams.

academic supe ision plays a c ucial ole, encompassing guidance, men o ing, moni o ing, and
p o iding eedback on eache s’ pe o mance. Academic supe ision is no only in ended o

eache s’ po en ial. Among he a ious oles o academic supe ision implemen ed in educa ional
ins i u ions a e: assis ing eache s in designing c ea i e and e ec i e lea ning ac i i ies,
enhancing eaching me hod skills, imp o ing he use o ins uc ional media in he class oom,
encou aging he u iliza ion o echnology, and os e ing an inclusi e a i ude owa d s uden s in

METHOD
This s udy employs a desc ip i e quali a i e app oach wi h a case s udy design. This
app oach was chosen because i aligns wi h he esea ch objec i e o gaining an in-dep h
unde s anding o he p ocesses and dynamics in ol ed in he implemen a ion o academic
supe ision and i s ole in imp o ing eache s’ p o essionalism wi hin he en i onmen o
Mawa idussalam Islamic Boa ding School. Quali a i e esea ch is na u alis ic in na u e;
he e o e, he esea che obse es phenomena as hey occu , wi hou applying ea men o
manipula ion o he a iables unde s udy.
The case s udy design was used o ob ain a comp ehensi e unde s anding o he con ex
o academic supe ision implemen ed by KMI (Kulliya ul Mu’allimin Al-Islamiyah). This case
s udy is explo a o y in na u e and aims o cap u e he meaning, p ocesses, and impac o
academic supe ision p ac ices wi hin he Islamic boa ding school con ex , which possesses i s
own dis inc i e educa ional cha ac e is ics.
Resea ch Loca ion and Du a ion
This esea ch was conduc ed a Mawa idussalam Islamic Boa ding School, loca ed on
Jl. P inggan, Dusun III, Tumpa an Nibung Village, Ba ang Kuis Dis ic , Deli Se dang Regency,
No h Suma a P o ince. This Islamic boa ding school was chosen as he esea ch si e because i
is he educa ional ins i u ion whe e he esea che cu en ly se es and has p e iously been
di ec ly in ol ed in academic supe ision ac i i ies h ough KMI (Kulliya ul Mu’allimin Al-
Islamiyah) Di ision. This expe ience p o ides he esea che wi h an in-dep h con ex ual
unde s anding o he p ocess and implemen a ion o academic supe ision wi hin he pesan en
en i onmen .
The esea ch was conduc ed om Feb ua y o June 2025, encompassing da a collec ion
h ough obse a ion, in e iews, and documen analysis ela ed o he implemen a ion o
academic supe ision in he boa ding school, ollowed by da a analysis and he p epa a ion o he
inal epo .
The esea ch subjec s consis ed o he Head o he Islamic Boa ding School, he Head o
he Educa ion Depa men , he Head o he KMI Bu eau, and se e al o he pa ies di ec ly
in ol ed in he implemen a ion and e alua ion o academic supe ision. The selec ion o subjec s
was ca ied ou using a pu posi e sampling echnique, in which pa icipan s we e chosen
based on speci ic c i e ia ele an o he ocus o he esea ch.
Da a Collec ion and Analysis

1. In-dep h in e iews, which aimed o explo e he iews, expe iences, and pe cep ions o
in o man s ega ding he implemen a ion o academic supe ision.
2. Pa icipan obse a ion, conduc ed o di ec ly obse e he supe ision p ocess,
including he s ages o planning, obse a ion, and pos -supe ision ollow-up.
3. Documen analysis, which in ol ed e iewing supe ision epo s, ollow-up plans,
e alua ion no es, and ins uc ional ma e ials used by eache s.

display, and conclusion d awing/ e i ica ion (Miles & Hube man, 1994). Da a educ ion was
conduc ed by so ing ele an in o ma ion, o ganizing i in o speci ic ca ego ies, and o mula ing
key hemes. Da a display was p esen ed in he o m o desc ip i e na a i es illus a ing he
supe ision p ocess and i s impac on eache s. Finally, conclusions we e d awn while
main aining da a alidi y h ough sou ce and me hod iangula ion.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

de eloped a s uc u ed academic supe ision sys em wi h ou main mechanisms as ollows:

lea ning ac i i ies (KBM) and se es as a pla o m o add ess po en ial challenges ha may a ise
du ing he lea ning p ocess, such as he need o lea ning acili ies, s uden discipline issues, and
o he ma e s. Th ough his p og am, a consis en ly o de ly, conduci e, and well-con olled
lea ning en i onmen is c ea ed a all imes
Thi d, he Lesson Plan Re iew Sys em (Idād Tad īs) is an essen ial componen o
academic supe ision a Mawa idussalam Islamic Boa ding School, ocusing on he e iew o
lesson plans (Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelaja an, RPP), known in he pesan en con ex as Idād
Tad īs. This e iew is conduc ed daily by a special eam composed o expe ienced senio eache s
who unde s and e ec i e lesson planning. Al hough he p og am has been p e iously
communica ed o all eache s, he andom daily implemen a ion mo i a es eache s o p epa e
hei Idād Tad īs se iously and consis en ly e e y day.
The e iew eam examines se e al c i ical aspec s, such as he o mula ion o lea ning
objec i es, he alignmen o con en wi h lea ning ma e ials, comple eness o he ma e ials, and
o he key componen s. This comp ehensi e e iew ensu es ha all elemen s o he Idād Tad īs
a e no only comple ed bu also mee na ional quali y s anda ds (Supa mi, 2019). S uc u ed
supe ision ac i i ies help eache s imp o e and e ine hei lesson plans, making hem mo e
e ec i e and aligned wi h quali y s anda ds.

among eache s and ensu es ha e e y eaching and lea ning p ocess (KBM) in class ooms is
p eceded by ho ough and well-p epa ed planning, consis en wi h he educa ional quali y

o imp o e eache quali y, specialized men o ing o eache s in need, s uden - ela ed challenges
du ing eaching and lea ning ac i i ies (KBM), and e alua ion o he supe ision sys em. Thus,
his o um is no only in ended as an e alua i e mechanism bu also as a pla o m o o mula ing
s a egic policies aimed a enhancing eaching quali y and de eloping eache s’ compe encies
comp ehensi ely.
The Impac o Supe ision on Teache P o essionalism
The implemen a ion o academic supe ision by KMI has had a signi ican impac on
imp o ing eache p o essionalism a Mawa idussalam Islamic Boa ding School:
1) Enhancemen o Pedagogical Compe ence – Ta’hil P og am
This p og am was speci ically designed by KMI o enhance eache s’ pedagogical
compe ence, pa icula ly in mas e ing subjec ma e . The Ta’hil P og am is s uc u ed
sys ema ically and implemen ed con inuously, co e ing in-dep h s udy o con en , eaching
me hodologies, and he ein o cemen o ele an scien i ic ounda ions in each subjec a ea.
Howe e , in p ac ice, he p og am has no ye been ully implemen ed ac oss all subjec a eas due
o ime e iciency cons ain s. The subjec s ha ha e pa icipa ed in he p og am include Tam in
Lugha, Nahwu, Sho o , Islamic S udies, English, and G amma .
Based on in e nal e alua ions and eedback om pa icipan s, he Ta’hil P og am has
success ully imp o ed eache s’ unde s anding o he ma e ial hey each, while also os e ing a
mo i a ion o con inuously lea n and enhance he quali y o hei class oom ins uc ion. This
p og am no only impac s eache s’ cogni i e abili ies bu also con ibu es o inc eased
con idence in deli e ing lessons, designing e ec i e eaching s a egies, and os e ing mo e
meaning ul in e ac ions wi h s uden s.
2) Pedagogical De elopmen
Based on he esul s o he obse a ions conduc ed, i was iden i ied ha academic
supe ision has a posi i e impac on bo h eache s and s uden s. Th ough supe ision, eache s
become mo e p o essional and a e able o de elop mo e a ied eaching me hods ailo ed o
s uden s’ needs. In addi ion, his ac i i y helps c ea e posi i e eache -s uden in e ac ions.
Supe ision also encou ages eache s o engage in con inuous sel - e lec ion and o enhance hei
compe encies in o de o achie e na ional educa ional objec i es.
3) Imp o emen o Wo k Discipline h ough Moni o ing
Supe ision ac i i ies ha e shown a posi i e con ibu ion o imp o ing eache s’ wo k
discipline, including punc uali y in eaching, comple eness o adminis a i e asks such as Idād
Tad īs, and p o iciency in implemen ing a ied eaching me hods ha mee s uden s’ needs.

Challenges in Implemen a ion
This s udy iden i ied se e al challenges in he implemen a ion o academic supe ision:
1) Senio i y Resis ance
Al hough supe ision ac i i ies a e gene ally well-execu ed and con ibu e posi i ely,
one challenge encoun e ed is he lack o esponsi eness om some senio eache s. Some
eel su icien ly capable and a e less open o eedback, which poses a challenge o
imp o ing educa ional quali y. Supe ision is undamen ally no only in ended o no ice
eache s bu also o eache s who may equi e guidance and u he imp o emen (Sa i
& Nug oho, 2020; Pu a, 2019). The e o e, i is impo an o os e an unde s anding o
