The Ho izon Eu ope p ojec , CONTRAST, will de elop an in eg a ed assessmen and e ec -
based moni o ing amewo k (IAF) o measu e he impac s o con aminan s o eme ging
conce n (CECs) on he ma ine en i onmen , which will con ibu e o he assessmen o Good
En i onmen al/ Ecological S a us o applica ion in EU policy (i.e., Ma ine S a egy
F amewo k Di ec i e, MSFD/ Wa e F amewo k Di ec i e, WFD). The IAF will in ol e
chemical measu emen s oge he wi h biological e ec s endpoin s op imised o de ec he
p esence and e ec o CECs in he ma ine en i onmen . Chemical p io i isa ion schemes will
iden i y he CECs ha pose he g ea es h ea o ma ine li e and selec which CECs o a ge
in he labo a o y expe imen s, whe e he e ec s on o ganisms and biodi e si y will be
assessed. In silico, in i o and in i o bioassays will be used o de e mine he mechanisms o
oxici y o selec ed CECs. P o iding in o ma ion on how CECs in e ac wi h o ganisms a
en i onmen ally ele an concen a ions, and which biological e ec s ools should be used
in he IAF o co e he ange o oxici y mechanisms ha CECs p oduce. A se ies o Eu opean-
wide case s udies will be used o es he sui abili y o he IAF o measu e he e ec s o
chemicals including CECs on indica o species and biodi e si y. The knowledge gained om
ield es ing and labo a o y s udies will o m he basis o guidance documen s and policy
b ie s on bes p ac ices o pe o ming an IAF on CECs in he ma ine en i onmen and help
o p o ide he necessa y p o ec ion o ma ine ecosys ems.
Abou his DMP
This Da a Managemen Plan (DMP) de ails how da a will be collec ed, gene a ed, p ocessed,
and s o ed h oughou he CONTRAST p ojec , in line wi h he Eu opean Commission's
Open Science policy and FAIR p inciples (Findable, Accessible, In e ope able, Reusable). I
ou lines he sou cing, p ocessing, analysis, and s o age o p ojec da a, he s anda ds and
me hodologies adop ed, and he in ended audience. Da a will be collec ed h ough
moni o ing, ield wo k, and labo a o y expe imen s.
The DMP also add esses e hics and in ellec ual p ope y, acili a ing euse acco ding o he
p inciple “as open as possible, as closed as necessa y” (HE P og amme Guide, 2022), while
ensu ing compliance wi h GDPR. All pa ne s a e esponsible o ensu ing hei da a
con o ms o he DMP and applicable na ional equi emen s.
This DMP will be i e a i ely e ined h ough deli e ables a M24 (D1.2) and M45 (D1.3), keeping
i up- o-da e, lexible, and aligned wi h p ojec objec i es. The ini ial e sion was de eloped
wi h inpu om all pa ne s, including a able summa izing da ase s pe wo k package/ ask
and key cha ac e is ics. The inal e sion will be c ea ed and main ained in he ARGOS online
DMP ool. ARGOS p oduces a s anda dised, machine-ac ionable DMP—enhancing he
in e ope abili y o p ojec da a—and p o ides guidance and empla es aligned wi h unding
agency equi emen s. By using ARGOS, he conso ium ensu es e icien , anspa en , and
ep oducible da a managemen , con ibu ing o FAIR compliance and ad ancing open
science and esea ch da a s ewa dship (Papadopoulou e al., 2023).
