In his wo k we u ilize space-based ada p oduc s om he CloudSa mission o p o ide s a is ics
on he p ope ies o he clouds obse ed abo e he Medi e anean du ing he pe iod 2007 – 2017.
CloudSa ’s payload, he Cloud P o iling Rada (CPR), is he i s spacebo ne 94-GHz (W-band) ada
p oducing e ical cloud p o iles o e he globe. Th ee domains a e selec ed in he Medi e anean
o s udy he geome ical p ope ies and he cloud ypes by mon h and al i ude.
Ou esul s e eal ha low-le el clouds a e dominan abo e he Medi e anean egion especially
du ing win e and sp ing pe iods, mainly appea ing a al i ude up o 4 km, while high clouds
p e ail h oughou he yea a al i udes be ween 9 and 14 km, excep in July and Augus abo e he
Eas Medi e anean, whe e hey a e nea ly absen . In he Eas Medi e anean, a highe equency
o low-le el clouds is obse ed du ing he summe pe iod. The majo i y o he deep con ec i e
clouds a e obse ed abo e he Wes and Cen al Medi e anean, indica ing he in luence o he
A lan ic sys ems and he mid-la i ude cyclones on he Medi e anean wea he condi ions.
Addi ionally, a cloud clima ology is cons uc ed in o de o examine ends in each cloud ype.
