ex -based ile o ma s such as CSV and TXT a e likely mos endu ing, bu ODS
and ODT iles allow keeping mul i-shee iles easily oge he . The e o e, da a ile
manage s should decide be ween he wo o ms (CSV/TXT o ODS/ODT). These
iles shall be s o ed in sub olde s (see ‘Naming con en ions’ below o how
sub olde s and iles should be named).

4. Naming con en ions
Files, shee s and a iable names should use unde sco e (_) a he han spaces o hyphens
o sepa a e wo ds and s a wi h le e s a he han numbe s o a oid po en ial issues in
some p og amming languages.
4.1. VARIABLE NAMES
Va iable names should be simple and desc ip i e. They s a wi h an uppe case le e and
a e ollowed by lowe case le e s. Ac onyms, used only i widely unde s ood and
accep ed (e.g. DNA), a e ypically spelled in uppe case le e s o how hey a e spelled in
s anda d English (e.g. DNA o cDNA). Di e en wo ds a e sepa a ed by an unde sco e (_)
e.g. “Bombus_abundance”.
4.2. FILE NAMES
Rela i ely simple, desc ip i e ile names will allow o he Res Poll membe s o easily ind
he da a iles hey need. Files should be named using his con en ion:
[Da a i le]_Res Poll_WP[WP numbe . Task]_[Pa ne ac onym] e.g.
“Pollina o _su ey_Res Poll_WP1.2_ALU.xlsx”.
In a e ins ances, i may make sense o s o e da a in a o ma o he han he idy da a

8.1. TRACK-CHANGES AND VERSION CONTROL
