The inc easing demand o homoeopa hic medicines wo ldwide
has placed enewed a en ion on he quali y and sa e y o
pha maceu ical p epa a ions. While homoeopa hic emedies—
especially medium and high po encies—a e adi ionally
conside ed sa e due o ul a-molecula dilu ions, nume ous
epo s om egula o y agencies ha e documen ed
con amina ion a ising no om he medicines hemsel es, bu
om poo ly egula ed manu ac u ing en i onmen s. S udies
ha e documen ed de ec able le els o lead, me cu y, cadmium,
a senic, and ch omium in imp ope ly manu ac u ed al e na i e
medical p oduc s (FDA, 2020). In many cases, con amina ion
o igina ed om aw ma e ials, equipmen leaching, o
insu icien pu i ica ion a he han om he o iginal d ug
subs ance.
The dis inc ion be ween in en ional me allic d ugs (e.g., Au um,
Me cu ius, A senicum) and unin en ional con amina ion is
essen ial o scien i ic cla i y. Homoeopa hic pha macy, when
conduc ed acco ding o pha macopeial s anda ds, p e en s

2. CONTAMINATION PATHWAYS: AN EXPANDED
SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS
