he ea men o he Annonaceae amily in Indiain he Flo a

o Melodo um mac an hum Ku z (basionym o Gonio halamus
mac an hus) and a second-s ep lec o ype o Mezze ia cu isii

ba ium, Royal Bo anical Ga dens, Calcu a, conduc ed an
expedi ion o he Andaman Islands om Ap il o July 1866 o
collec plan specimens o he p epa a ion o he ‘Flo a o he
Andaman Islands’. Ku z had i s sugges ed he name Unona
mac an ha Ku z (nom. nud.) in his ‘Repo on he Fo es s o he
Andaman Islands’ (appendix B. I) da ed 1867 ( epo could no
be aced) as ci ed by King (1893) and Me ill (1919). Ku z
(1870) again in oduced ano he in alid name Py amidan he
mac an ha Ku z (nom. nud.) in his epo , i led ‘Repo on he
Vege a ion o he Andaman Islands’ Finally, he alidly published
he name Melodo um mac an hum Ku z om his collec ion
in ‘Andamans’ in Jou nal o he Asia ic Socie y o Bengal, Pa
I (Ku z 1872: 291).
Ini ially, only one specimen (CAL0000004545) was ound
in he ype collec ions a CAL, which Tu ne (2018) ea ed
as he holo ype, ci ing i as ‘India, Andaman Islands, Sou h
Andaman, S.Ku z s.n. (holo ype CAL [CAL0000004545])’.
Howe e , an anno a ion by Debika Das (06.10.1966), indi-
ca es ha his specimen was also conside ed a lec o ype o
Gonio halamus mac an hus (Ku z) Boe l., al hough i was no
alidly published. A u he sea ch in he gene al collec ions a
CAL e ealed a duplica e specimen (accession numbe 13892)
collec ed by S. Ku z om Sou h Andaman, wi h an o iginal
label bea ing Ku z’s handw i ing wi h he name ‘Unona mac-
an ha Ku z’ and he name ‘Melodo um mac an hum Ku z’
on he shee . Acco ding o he p o ologue, his specimen also
quali ies as o iginal ma e ial. The e o e, bo h specimens a CAL
(CAL0000004545and CAL acc. no. 13892) a e conside ed
syn ypes, necessi a ing lec o ypi ica ion. In acco dance wi h
A . 9.12 o ICN (Tu land e al. 2018), he well-p ese ed
lowe ing specimen CAL0000004545 (Fig. 1) is he eby des-
igna ed as he lec o ype o M. mac an hum Ku z.

based on Cu is’s collec ions and indica ed he ype as ‘Penang,
on Go e nmen Hill a 1200 ee ; Cu is, No. 2266.’ Van de
Heijden& Kessle (1990) in hei e ision o he genus Mez-
ze ia, expec ed he holo ype o be housed a CAL and ci ed
ype as ‘Cu is 2266, Malaysia, Penang, Go e nmen hill, 360
m al ., Ma ch 1890 (holo-, CAL, n. .; iso-, BM, K).’ Tu ne
(2011) also conside ed CAL specimen as holo ype. La e ,
Tu ne (2015) el ha he CAL specimen is a syn ype a he
han holo ype and he chose one syn ype a K and designa ed i
as ‘Lec o ype: Malaysia, Peninsula Malaysia, Penang, Go e n-
men Hill, Ma 1890, C. Cu is 2266 (lec o-, K (ba code no.
