ABSTRACT: This s udy aims o examine how local wisdom-based adi ional music lea ning can enhance c ea i i y and c i ical
hinking among Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD) s uden s in Wes Kaliman an, Indonesia. A Mixed Me hods Resea ch
(MMR) app oach was employed using a Sequen ial Explana o y Design. The s udy adop ed a quasi-expe imen al design ha
di ided s uden s in o wo g oups: an expe imen al g oup and a con ol g oup. To ensu e he da a me he equi ed assump ions,
no mali y, homogenei y, and independen sample - es s we e conduc ed. Da a analysis was pe o med using SPSS, including
mul iple linea eg ession es s. The esul s o he mul iple eg ession analysis e ealed ha unde s anding and con ibu ing o
local wisdom signi ican ly in luence s uden s’ c ea i i y and c i ical hinking, wi h he “con ibu ion o local wisdom” ha ing he
s onges e ec on bo h a iables. These indings sugges ha educa ional p ac ices in eg a ing local wisdom alues mo e deeply
can enhance s uden s’ cogni i e skills, pa icula ly in c ea i e and c i ical hinking domains. Howe e , despi e i s posi i e
in luence, he e ec o local wisdom alone was no su icien ly signi ican o be conside ed he dominan ac o .

I. INTRODUCTION
T adi ional music ep esen s an essen ial pa o Indonesia’s cul u al he i age, embodying educa ional, aes he ic, and his o ical
alues ha a e i al o cul u al con inui y. In Wes Kaliman an, adi ional ins umen s such as Sape’, Gong, and Tuma’ ha e
been passed down h ough gene a ions. Howe e , apid globaliza ion and he dominance o popula and digi al music ha e
ma ginalized he exis ence o adi ional music, especially among younge gene a ions. Among Elemen a y Teache Educa ion
(PGSD) s uden s, he unde s anding and app ecia ion o adi ional music emain ela i ely low. Many s uden s pe cei e
ins umen s such as he Sape’ as ou da ed o i ele an o con empo a y lea ning con ex s. T adi ional music educa ion in highe
educa ion ins i u ions o en emains heo e ical, wi h limi ed p ac ical sessions and minimal use o digi al echnology as
ins uc ional media. This lack o inno a ion a ec s s uden mo i a ion, engagemen , and lea ning ou comes (Vygo sky, 1978;
B une , 1966).
P e ious s udies ha e demons a ed ha cul u e-based lea ning signi ican ly shapes s uden s’ cha ac e and s eng hens hei
unde s anding o local wisdom alues (Supa no, 2021). In eg a ing cul u al elemen s in o music educa ion enhances s uden s’
a ec i e and aes he ic abili ies (Pu wan o e al., 2020). Acco ding o cons uc i is heo y, lea ning ha connec s knowledge o
cul u al expe iences and local con ex s encou ages deepe engagemen and cogni i e de elopmen .
Fu he mo e, in e ac i e digi al echnology o e s as po en ial o inno a ing adi ional music educa ion. Tools such as
digi al music applica ions, augmen ed eali y (AR), and mul imedia pla o ms enable he deli e y o cul u ally ele an and
in e ac i e con en . Mul imedia-based ins uc ional design suppo s comp ehension h ough he in eg a ion o ex , sound, and
isuals (Maye , 2009), aligning wi h he Cogni i e Theo y o Mul imedia Lea ning. Addi ionally, he Technological Pedagogical
and Con en Knowledge (TPACK) amewo k emphasizes he syne gy be ween echnology, pedagogy, and con en knowledge in
imp o ing lea ning e ec i eness (Mish a & Koehle , 2006). Empi ical indings ha e shown ha TPACK-based digi al lea ning
inc eases eaching quali y and s uden mo i a ion (Se iawan & Anwa , 2022).
Hwang e al. (2019) ound ha AR-based a educa ion os e s s uden engagemen , e en ion, and knowledge ans e . Thus,

(Paul & Elde , 2006), while c ea i i y encou ages ein e p e a ion o cul u al he i age in con empo a y o ms (To ance, 1974).

II. RESEARCH METHOD
This s udy employed a Mixed Me hods Resea ch (MMR) app oach wi h a Sequen ial Explana o y Design, in eg a ing
quan i a i e and quali a i e da a o p o ide a comp ehensi e unde s anding o he esea ch p oblem. Da a we e collec ed h ough a
c ea i i y es , a c i ical hinking es , and a ques ionnai e assessing s uden s’ pe cep ions o local wisdom. Bo h p ima y and
seconda y da a we e u ilized: p ima y da a we e ob ained om in e iews and ques ionnai es adminis e ed o Elemen a y Teache
Educa ion (PGSD) s uden s, while seconda y da a we e ga he ed h ough obse a ion and documen a ion.
Using a quasi-expe imen al design, pa icipan s we e di ided in o expe imen al and con ol g oups. To e i y ha he da a me
he equi ed assump ions, s a is ical analyses including no mali y, homogenei y, and independen samples - es s we e conduc ed.
Fu he analysis employed mul iple linea eg ession using SPSS o iden i y he in luence o local wisdom-based lea ning on
s uden s’ c ea i i y and c i ical hinking.
III. DISCUSSION
Be o e p oceeding o he main discussion, which aims o examine how local wisdom-based adi ional music lea ning can
enhance he c ea i i y and c i ical hinking o Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD) s uden s, se e al s a is ical es s we e
conduc ed o ensu e he alidi y and eliabili y o he da a used in he analysis. The e o e, o con i m ha he da a me he equi ed
assump ions, a se ies o s a is ical es s we e pe o med, including he no mali y es , homogenei y es , and independen samples
- es .

alues less han 0.001. Since all p- alues we e below he 0.05 h eshold, he null hypo hesis was ejec ed. I can he e o e be
concluded ha he e we e s a is ically signi ican di e ences be ween he g oups in e ms o c ea i i y, c i ical hinking, and hei
pe cep ions o local wisdom.
4. Mul iple Linea Reg ession Analysis
Be o e conduc ing he mul iple linea eg ession analysis, se e al classical assump ions we e es ed, including no mali y,
mul icollinea i y, he e oscedas ici y, and au oco ela ion. The esul s o he no mali y es indica ed ha he da a poin s on he
No mal P–P Plo closely ollowed he diagonal line, sugges ing ha he da a we e no mally dis ibu ed. The mul icollinea i y es
showed ha all independen a iables unde s anding, ele ance, in luence, and con ibu ion o local wisdom had Tole ance alues
abo e 0.10 and Va iance In la ion Fac o (VIF) alues below 10.00, indica ing no mul icollinea i y issues. The he e oscedas ici y
es demons a ed ha he da a poin s we e andomly sca e ed abo e and below he ze o line on he Y-axis, sugges ing he
absence o he e oscedas ici y. Hence, all classical assump ions we e me , ensu ing he eliabili y o he eg ession analysis.
The nex s ep in ol ed examining he coe icien o de e mina ion (R-squa ed). As p esen ed in Table 4, he R-squa ed alues
indica ed ha he independen a iables explained 32.9% o he a iance in c ea i i y and 36.1% o he a iance in c i ical
hinking, while he emaining a iance could no be explained by he model. The Adjus ed R-squa ed alues showed a sligh
educ ion in explana o y powe a e being adjus ed o he numbe o p edic o s, as p esen ed in Table 4.

5. The In luence o Local Wisdom-Based Lea ning on he C ea i i y o Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD) S uden s
Based on he esul s o he mul iple linea eg ession analysis p esen ed in Table 18, i can be concluded ha unde s anding o
local wisdom, ele ance o local wisdom, and con ibu ion o local wisdom ha e a signi ican in luence on he c ea i i y o
Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD) s uden s. This analysis was de i ed by conside ing bo h he uns anda dized and
s anda dized coe icien s, which indica e he ex en o which each independen a iable con ibu es o s uden s’ c ea i i y.
The esul s o he analysis showed ha unde s anding o local wisdom (B = 0.169, p = 0.043) had a posi i e e ec on
c ea i i y, meaning ha he be e he s uden s’ unde s anding o local wisdom, kea i an he highe hei le el o c ea i i y. This
inding is consis en wi h he esul s o Teng e al. (2018), which indica ed ha unde s anding cul u al alues and local wisdom
can b oaden s uden s’ pe spec i es and encou age hem o hink inno a i ely. Lea ning ha in eg a es local wisdom p o ides
s uden s wi h a deepe unde s anding and s imula es new ideas in c ea ing adi ional musical wo ks (Zanazzi, 2017).

p ocess, encou aging hem o hink mo e lexibly and explo a i ely. In e iew esul s om his s udy also suppo his inding,
indica ing ha s uden s el ee and mo e lexible in shi ing be ween di e en adi ional music ideas, hanks o he digi al
echnology–based lea ning app oach ha allowed hem o explo e a ious musical me hods and elemen s. In line wi h his,
Ho s ede (2011) no ed ha ele ance in cul u ally g ounded lea ning can s eng hen s uden s’ sense o owne ship owa d he
ma e ial being s udied, which in u n mendo ong mahasiswa un uk be eksplo asi lebih jauh dan be k easi (T iandis & Ho s ede,
1993).
On he o he hand, he con ibu ion o local wisdom (B = 0.289, p = 0.000) had he mos signi ican in luence on s uden s’
c ea i i y. This indica es ha he ac i e in eg a ion o local wisdom in he lea ning p ocess g ea ly con ibu es o encou aging
s uden s o become mo e c ea i e. S uden s who we e di ec ly in ol ed in lea ning ac i i ies ha inco po a ed local wisdom
demons a ed highe le els o c ea i i y. Findings om he in e iews also suppo his esul , e ealing ha s uden s el mo e
con iden in c ea ing o iginal and unique musical wo ks, acili a ed by he use o digi al echnology ha enabled hem o explo e
new ideas. Gibson (2010) suppo s his heo y, asse ing ha lea ning which in eg a es elemen s o local cul u e can enhance
s uden engagemen and s imula e hem o hink mo e c ea i ely and inno a i ely.
Al hough local wisdom (B = 0.158, p = 0.065) showed a posi i e e ec , i s in luence on s uden s’ c ea i i y was no
s a is ically signi ican a he 0.05 le el. This sugges s ha while local wisdom may con ibu e o c ea i i y, i s impac is likely
mo e complex and media ed by o he ac o s such as s uden s’ pe sonal expe iences, social con ex , and he eaching me hods
employed. Al hough cul u al in luences ha e he po en ial o enhance c ea i i y, such e ec s a e o en shaped by b oade
indi idual and social con ex s (Tomi & Su, 2025).
O e all, hese indings highligh he impo ance o in eg a ing local wisdom in o he lea ning p ocess o enhance he c ea i i y
o Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD) s uden s. Unde s anding, ele ance, and con ibu ion o local wisdom posi i ely
in luence s uden s’ c ea i i y, pa icula ly when lea ning is suppo ed by digi al echnology ha acili a es he explo a ion o
c ea i e ideas. This s udy p o ides aluable insigh s o he de elopmen o a PGSD cu iculum ha is mo e g ounded in local
wisdom and se es as a guideline o designing mo e inno a i e lea ning s a egies in p ima y eache educa ion.
6. The In luence o Local Wisdom-Based Lea ning on he C i ical Thinking o Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD)
S uden s
Based on he esul s o he mul iple linea eg ession analysis p esen ed in he able abo e, his analysis aimed o examine he
e ec s o he a iables unde s anding o local wisdom, ele ance o local wisdom, in luence o local wisdom, and con ibu ion o
local wisdom on he c i ical hinking abili ies o Elemen a y Teache Educa ion (PGSD) s uden s. The eg ession esul s indica e
ha unde s anding o local wisdom has a signi ican e ec on c i ical hinking, wi h a coe icien o B = 0.398 and a signi icance
alue o p < 0.001 (p < 0.05). This means ha he be e s uden s unde s and local wisdom, he highe hei le el o c i ical
hinking. P e ious s udies also suppo his inding, sugges ing ha a deep unde s anding o local cul u e can b oaden s uden s’
pe spec i es and enhance hei abili y o analyze and e alua e in o ma ion c i ically (Hikmawa i e al., 2020). Unde s anding local
cul u e no only p o ides s uden s wi h heo e ical knowledge bu also encou ages hem o hink mo e inno a i ely and c i ically
in esponding o challenges (Wahyudi e al., 2025). Howe e , he ele ance o local wisdom did no show a signi ican e ec on
c i ical hinking, wi h a coe icien o B = -0.004 and a signi icance alue o p = 0.945 (p > 0.05). The e y small B alue and high
p- alue indica e ha al hough he ele ance o local wisdom-based lea ning is conside ed impo an in he educa ional p ocess, i s
in luence on s uden s’ c i ical hinking skills was no s a is ically signi ican . This may be a ibu ed o o he ac o s, such as
s uden s’ pe sonal mo i a ion o lea ning expe iences, which play a mo e dominan ole in enhancing c i ical hinking abili ies
(T iandis & Ho s ede, 1993). Al hough he ele ance o local wisdom-based lea ning emains impo an , ex e nal ac o s appea o

s uden s (Bali, 2015). On he o he hand, he con ibu ion o local wisdom showed he mos signi ican e ec on c i ical hinking,
wi h a coe icien o B = 0.161 and a signi icance alue o p = 0.011 (p < 0.05). This esul indica es ha he g ea e he

se e al ecommenda ions o he de elopmen o PGSD lea ning can be p oposed. These include a deepe in eg a ion o local
wisdom in o he cu iculum o enhance s uden s’ c ea i i y and c i ical hinking, wi h a pa icula ocus on he con ibu ion o
local wisdom and on s eng hening i s ele ance o s uden s’ eal-li e con ex s. In addi ion, in e ac i e p ojec -based eaching
me hods should be employed o deepen p ac ical unde s anding, and egula e alua ions a e necessa y o op imize lea ning
ou comes in e ms o c ea i i y and c i ical hinking.
