In ecen decades, he equency and se e i y o en i onmen al haza ds—bo h na u al (e.g., loods, ea hquakes) and
an h opogenic (e.g., chemical spills, indus ial explosions)—ha e su ged globally, h ea ening he s abili y o high- isk
sec o s such as oil, mining, and chemical manu ac u ing (Wo ld Jou nal o Ad anced Resea ch and Re iews, 2023).
While he physical des uc ion and economic allou om such e en s a e well-documen ed, hei sociological
implica ions—pa icula ly on he pe cep ions, a i udes, and beha io s o wo ke s—a e less ho oughly examined.
Wo ke pe cep ions o sa e y a e complex, shaped by pe sonal expe iences, o ganiza ional esponses, cul u al no ms,
and socie al na a i es (Lup on, 2013). Disas e s ac as social ca alys s ha can ei he ein o ce o unde mine hese

o con ol (Pidgeon e al., 2003).

(Coope , 2000). When sa e y no ms a e pe cei ed as genuine and well-communica ed, us and compliance end o
inc ease; when o ganiza ional esponses a e pe cei ed as inadequa e, sa e y cul u e can de e io a e (Gelle , 2014).

Empi ical s udies e eal ha expe iencing o wi nessing haza ds can induce auma, anxie y, and pos - auma ic s ess,
which in luence isk pe cep ion and sa e y beha io s (Smi h & Williams, 2019). Fo ins ance, wo ke s exposed o
haza dous e en s o en epo inc eased igilance and adhe ence o sa e y p o ocols (Nguyen e al., 2022). Howe e , i
o ganiza ional esponses a e pe cei ed as negligen , wo ke s may de elop cynicism, isk no maliza ion, and a alis ic
a i udes ha unde mine sa e y e o s (Johnson & Lee, 2021).

3. Me hodology
This s udy employs a quali a i e, phenomenological design o explo e wo ke s' li ed expe iences o en i onmen al
disas e s. Da a collec ion in ol ed conduc ing semi-s uc u ed in e iews wi h 30 pa icipan s ac oss oil, chemical, and
mining sec o s in geog aphically di e se egions. Pa icipan s we e pu posi ely selec ed based on ecen exposu e o
en i onmen al haza ds wi hin he pas i e yea s.
In e iew ques ions elici ed insigh s in o pe sonal sa e y pe cep ions, us in o ganiza ional esponses, psychological
impac s, and social suppo mechanisms. T ansc ip s we e analyzed hema ically using B aun and Cla ke’s (2006)
app oach, ensu ing igo ous pa e n ecogni ion and hema ic de elopmen . E hical s anda ds we e upheld h ough
in o med consen , con iden iali y, and sensi i i y o pa icipan s’ auma.
4. Resul s
Analysis yielded se e al co e hemes:
