INTRODUCTION
The genus Didelo ia Baill. is now pa o ibe Amhe s ieae
(Es ella e al. 2018) o Leguminosae sub amily De a ioideae
(LPWG 2017). Including he new species desc ibed he e
he e a e 13 species known in Didelo ia (Bu g 2016), all
o which a e o es ees endemic o he Guineo-Congolian
Region in A ica.
Recen ly a i s lowe ing specimen was collec ed om
a ee ha had always been iden i ied as Didelo ia b e i-
panicula a J. Léona d. These lowe s showed clea ly ha
his Didelo ia, known om Libe ia and I o y Coas , is no
he same species as D. b e ipanicula a s.s. om Came oon
and Gabon. I ha e he e o e chosen o desc ibe i he e as
Didelo ia g acillima Jongkind, sp. no . The in lo escence,
lowe s and ui s o D. g acillima mo e closely esemble
hose o D. engle i Dinkl. & Ha ms, ano he Uppe Guinean
species wi h ed lowe s, han hose o D. b e ipanicula a,
whose in lo escence is mo e sp eading, lowe s a e almos
whi e and s amens a e much sho e (Table 1), and whose
ui s a e mo e ounded a bo h ends.
The e is a signi ican a ia ion among Didelo ia species
in he numbe o lea le s pe lea . They can a y om mo e
han 30 pai s o lea le s, as in D. g acillima, o uni oliola e,
as seen in D. idae J.Léona d, Oldeman & de Wi . Includ-
ing he new species desc ibed he e, i e Didelo ia species
ha e mo e han en pai s o lea le s. Impo an ea u es o
hese species a e compa ed in Table 1. Only one o hem,
D. g acillima, is ound in he Uppe Guinean o es s (sensu
Whi e 1979, wes o Benin). Didelo ia b e ipanicula a is
now es ic ed o Came oon and Gabon.

was 18 m high. The 40 me e heigh in he species desc ip-
ion is based on he in o ma ion om a single ee (JJFE de
Wilde s.n.) bu knowing he s em diame e om se e al o he
indi iduals (see Fig. 2A) i is likely o be co ec . In o ma ion
om collec ions o he ela ed D. a zelii indica es ha ha spe-
cies can also lowe when s ill ela i ely small (Bu g 2016: 52).
The ui desc ip ion is based on ma e ial collec ed om
he g ound, ha was p obably imma u e (B e ele 13394).
On his line d awing o Didelo ia (Toubaoua e) b e ipanicu-
la a in he “Flo e o es iè e”, Aub é ille (1959: 299) indica ed
ha he lowe is om his collec ion no. 4053 nea G abo, in
sou h-wes I o y Coas . Reg e ably his specimen canno be
ound in he Pa is he ba ium. The illus a ed lowe does no ,
howe e , ag ee wi h hose om he ype specimen ci ed in
his publica ion. The mos likely explana ion is ha Aub é ille
only had lowe buds and no open lowe s, and ha se e al
lowe pa s a e no ully g own ye . The ui shown on his
illus a ion is likely based on a specimen om Came oon, as
i ma ches ha o D. b e ipanicula a s.s and in any case, does
no belong o D. g acillima. O he specimens om sou h-wes
I o y Coas a e wi hou doub D. g acillima.
