The 6G-PATH P ojec aims o os e he de elopmen o new echnologies sup-
po ing 6G, bo h in close collabo a ion wi h o he 6G Sma Ne wo ks and
Se ices Indus y Associa ion (6G-IA) p ojec s and h ough he p ocess o Open
Calls o engage Eu opean companies de eloping inno a ions o Beyond-5G (B5G)
and 6G sys ems, as well as b inging new Use-Cases (UCs) and pilo si es o he
ecosys em. Such echnologies and pilo s will be combined in ele an pla o ms
o be used by a se o applica ions in UCs co esponding o he ou e icals
whe e 6G-PATH will be p esen : Heal h, Educa ion, Sma Ci ies and Fa ming.
O e all, 6G-PATH will build an ex ensi e B5G/6G in as uc u e whe e a se

2 XR in Ru al Schools
XR Ru al School is one o he h ee UCs conside ed o he 6G-PATH pilo s in
he Educa ion Ve ical. This UC is championed by O ange Romania Founda ion
(OROF) and led by ORO. The p incipal goal o UC-EDU-1 is o enhance he
eaching expe ience and ma e ials, augh a gene al-school le el in Romania.
The use case will d i e, h ough OROF’s “Digi aliada” pla o m and p og am,
he necessa y aining so ha eache s and o he acul y s a can con ibu e.
The ials o his use case will include:
–In e ac i e mul imedia con en : A a ie y o mul imedia esou ces, such as
ideos, anima ions, and 3D models, ha allow s uden s o explo e lea ning
subjec s in a cap i a ing and in e ac i e way.
–Pe sonalized lea ning expe iences: The pla o m will be designed o adap
he lea ning expe ience o he knowledge le el and skills o each s uden .
This could help imp o e s uden s’ academic pe o mance and con ibu e o
educing dispa i ies be ween s uden s om u al and u ban en i onmen s,
espec i ely.
–Use o VR de ices: The pla o m will be compa ible wi h a a ie y o i ual
and augmen ed eali y de ices, such as VR glasses o Augmen ed Reali y
(AR) suppo ed mobile phones, o allow s uden s o expe ience lea ning
subjec s in a mo e p ac ical and in e ac i e way.
–Collabo a ion and in e ac ion: The pla o m will allow s uden s o collab-
o a e and in e ac wi h each o he and hei eache s in a mo e inno a i e
and engaging way.

In Romania, digi al educa ion is s ill a p i ilege, as almos 38% [1] o child en
unde 16 yea s old and 37.5% o young people aged 16-24 a e a isk o po e y
o social exclusion, a si ua ion ha is pa icula ly widesp ead among hose wi h
a low le el o educa ion: almos 55% o people who ha e only comple ed p ima y
school a e exposed, acco ding o Eu os a da a, o po e y o social exclusion,
wi h a signi ican p opo ion in u al a eas. 45% o Romania’s kids come om
u al a eas and almos 30% [2] o hem a e unable o ge a passing g ade a he
Na ional E alua ion, which p e en s hem o access a high school and uni e si y
s udies. This means ha se e al gene a ions o kids’ chances o employmen will
be ei he in di y, dull, and dange ous jobs o in domains which will p o ide

less chances o making a decen wage. A he same ime, some o hese jobs
will be, wi hin he nex 20 yea s, subjec o ex inc ion due o obo iza ion,
au oma iza ion and machine lea ning. Wha all s udies on he u u e o labo
p edic ( om Ox o d o Wo ld Economic Fo um) is ha IT and echnology skills
will be in high demand.

(LTE) Co e Ne wo k.
The NSA Co e a chi ec u e is based on he i ual E ol ed Packe Co e
( EPC) solu ion om E icsson, deployed in an OpenS ack in as uc u e. The
exis ing co e a chi ec u e can suppo b oadband connec i i y ea u ing con ig-
u able h oughpu alues. Fo he exis ing co e a chi ec u e, he 5G se ices
a e manually con igu ed, by using dedica ed QoS, a ic p io i iza ion, p i a e
Access Poin Names (APNs) and ne wo k p o isioned capabili ies in e ms o
h oughpu , as he main se ice ha can be se ed is enhanced Mobile B oad-
band (eMBB).
The SA Co e a chi ec u e uses he 5G SA Compac Mobili y Uni (CMU)
[14] Co e Ne wo k solu ion om Nokia, unning on a p op ie a y i ualized
in as uc u e in he Bucha es 5G Lab da acen e. Th ee main componen s a e
in eg a ed, he Cloud Mobile Ga eway (CMG), he Cloud Mobili y Manage
(CMM), and he Au hen ica ion and Policy Con ol (APC). This pla o m is
capable o deli e ing 3GPP-complian ne wo k slicing [15][16], implemen ing one
slice o eMBB a ic and ano he p io i ized slice o Ul a Reliable Low La ency
Communica ions (URLLC).
The 5G Labs 5G SA RAN a chi ec u e ollows he 3GPP Op ion 2; in his
app oach, as showcased in Figu e 4, he RAN consis s o only gNBs ha a e
connec ed o he 5G Co e ne wo k. The gNBs connec o AMF o e he NG-C
in e ace o con ol plane signaling and o UPF o e he NG-U in e ace o
use plane da a ans e . gNBs p o ide he NR (New Radio) ai in e ace access
o he UEs. The deployed 5G SA RAN componen s also include suppo o
ne wo k slicing, le e aging on p io i y managemen wi h di e en ia ed 5G QoS
lows, p io i ized UE TCP sessions and 5G QoS lows o DRB mapping – in his
app oach he ne wo k maps di e en IP lows wi h he same QoS equi emen s
in o he same QoS low.
Connec ed o he 5G Co e Ne wo k and RAN in as uc u e, h ough an
IPFABRIC [17] anspo ne wo k, is he 5G Labs edge compu ing acili y. This
acili y is sha ed be ween he wo labs om Bucha es and Iasi and consis s o 18
compu e se e s, o alizing in 270 CPU co es, 8 TB o RAM, 42 TB o s o age
and 6 GPUs (160 GB VRAM).
The 5G Labs edge compu ing ecosys em suppo s mul iple ypes o applica-
ions, anging om ba e me al solu ions o i ualized o con aine ized a ian s
based on h ee i ualiza ion pla o ms - OpenS ack [18], VMwa e ESXi [19] and
Kube ne es [20]. The esul ing modula ized se ices, lexible and adap able, can

deploymen cycles, and dynamic se ices launched in he ne wo k.

Analy ics Func ion) o enhance he moni o ing and managemen o ne wo k
slices, ocusing pa icula ly on es ima ing ene gy and ca bon oo p in s, ana-
lyzing esou ce usage, and op imizing pe o mance ac oss di e en i ualized
en i onmen s.
The NSDAF is designed o ex end he capabili ies o NWDAF (Ne wo k Da a
Analy ics Func ion) [22][23] and MDAF (Managemen Da a Analy ics Func ion)
[24][25][26] by speci ically ocusing on ne wo k slices. NSDAF, based on he com-
munica ion a chi ec u e showcased in Figu e 3, in e s KPIs p o ided by NWDAF
and MDAF o o e insigh s ailo ed o he needs o ne wo k slicing, such as:

slices based on eal- ime da a analy ics.
