BEFORE ENTERING THE CLEAN LABS
You mus be eshly showe ed and wea a clean se o clo hes, ha e en e ed he NFH-building so
ha you a oid ce ain high- isk con amina ion a eas. You mus en e he NFH building om he
main en ance o he eas side en ance (by he new building). When en e ing he lab a ea, you mus
only en e in he lab co ido s om he doo be ween s ai s and ele a o (opposi e om lab B310).

GENERAL CLEAN LAB ROUTINES
1. Take you shoes o in he co ido and b ing wi h you he plas ic box (i he e is any s u in
i ) o b ing in o he labs. En e he lock.
2. Lea e pe sonal belonging in he small box (i.e. phone, access ca d, ings e c.) Wash you hands,
pu on clean sui and blue shoe co e s, and inally a pai o glo es.
3. Make esh 10% bleach in he bucke , and mo e 50% E OH solu ion in he sp ay bo les i
needed. Take a new dish clo h.
4. Clean wha was in he plas ic box om he co ido and place hem whe e i belongs.
5. I you ha e samples o b ing in o a clean lab:
a. Remo e he ou e bag and clean he nex bag wi h bleach be o e en e ing oom. I you
samples a e no double-bagged (which means only one bag a ound you iplica es
samples), hen you clean he bag e y ho oughly wi h bleach, bu no e hanol since i
will wipe o he label.
b. En e he oom wi h only he bags o samples. Lea e he sample box in he lock. Pu
samples in ano he box inside he ex ac ion oom box and pu in he idge.
c. Exi back o he lock. Clean box used o samples and also he box om he co ido .
d. Change glo es. Re-en e he ex ac ion oom wi h bleach, e hanol and lab equipmen
you may wish o b ing in.
6. When inside he ex ac ion oom pu on lab shoes. Pu you lab equipmen in assigned box wi h
p ojec name. Keep all you hings in his box always and keep i clean.
7. Clean you glo es and pu a second pai on.
8. Clean he low hood and all equipmen ha a e o be used o he p o ocol, i.e. o ex,
cen i uges, pipe es, acks on so o h. Clean he o ange 50ml ube adap e s om he cen i uge
and place inside he lowhood. Clean he cen i uge cups. Always clean e e y hing.
9. Place e e y hing in he low hood and UV ea i o 10 mins. A his s ep you can e en place
he ubes, ips, bags, ma ke s e c. needed o he lab p o ocol in he hood o be UV’ed oo.
NEVER UV he chemicals om he ki s.

10. While wai ing o he UV o inish, i s clean he hea ing cabine and swi ch i on, he p oceed
o clean he la ge alcon cen i uge, sample wheel ( o a o ), chai and any o he su aces. Pu
bags in he wo ash cans – one o egula was e and one o lab was e.
11. Change he second pai o glo es and clean hem.
12. P oceed o he app op ia e lab p o ocol.
When ex ac ions a e done, you samples should be s o ed in he s ock and aliquo eeze s
espec i ely. Remembe , do no eeze you aliquo s i hey a e o be used wi hin 4 weeks o
downs eam p o ocol (i.e. lib.p ep., PCR e c.). S o e in idge i ha is he case. S o e you aliquo s
in PCR pla es o s ips. Pu wo bags a ound and make su e o label i p ope ly. The es o you
ex ac ed DNA (s ock) is s o ed in 1.5 ml ubes in a c yobox ha you ha e pu chased a he s o e
and b ough wi h you. Make su e o label he box p ope ly. Pu he c yobox in wo bags be o e
s o ing i in he s ock eeze .
AFTER LAB TIME AND EXITING CLEAN LAB
1. Clean you own s u and pu back in assigned box. Clean he sample box ha you used o
you samples in in he idge.
2. Clean he low hood and all equipmen ha has been used, i.e. acks, o ex, cen i uges,
pipe es. Clean e e y hing!
a. Use he same ack always and keep i in you box o lab s u . When he p ojec is done,
hen you b ing i ou o he slues and gi e i a p ope wash/cleaning.
3. Place e e y hing back in he low hood and UV ea i o 30 mins.
4. Clean he la ge alcon cen i uge, chai and all o he able su aces.
5. Emp y bo h ash bins and pu in new bags. You will ake bo h bags wi h you ou o he oom
when you a e comple ely done.
6. Go h ough he checklis be o e you lea e.
7. Take o lab shoes and exi o he lock. B ing wi h you he bleach bucke , e hanol bo le, MilliQ
bo le and he ash.
8. Bag wi h lab ash goes in he yellow bin, he o he you ake wi h you ou o he lab.
9. Emp y bucke wi h bleach. Th ow ou he dish clo h in egula ash. Pu bucke , MilliQ and
e hanol sp ay bo les back whe e hey belong.
10. Take o he blue shoe co e s and h ow hem ou in egula ash. Take o you clean sui and
pu in bag wi h you name. Place in bookcase.
11. I needed, emp y he egula ash bin in he lock and pu in new bag. I a yellow bin is ull, pu
lid on. B ing ash, yellow bin and box om he co ido ou wi h you.
12. Lea e he ash in he hallway o he sho ime while you go o he s o e o ge he hings
needed o you lab p o ocol o he lab. Remembe o no pass any high- isk a eas. In case he
s o e is closed when you a e inished you can buy he necessa y hings he nex mo ning.
13. Label he hings ha a e you s and pu all hings in he box in he co ido o b ing in one o he
nex days.
