As unde sco ed by ecen esea ch (Mye s & Pa z, 2009; Tilman e al., 2017;
D’O azio, 2023a; Nyambuu & Semmle , 2023), he e is an u gen need o
mac o- inancial policy amewo ks o e ol e, in eg a ing en i onmen al con-
side a ions o ensu e sus ainabili y and esilience. The pe asi e na u e o cli-
ma e and en i onmen al isks implies ha go e nmen s, inancial ins i u ions,
and he b oade global inancial sys em a e ine i ably exposed and ulne able

The link be ween clima e isks and hei e ec s on he economy and b oade
inancial sys em is c ucial o global economic s abili y and en i onmen al p o-
ec ion (Ca ney, 2015; Semieniuk e al., 2021; Campiglio & ande Ploeg, 2022).
This ela ionship emphasizes how clima e change damages na u e and c ea es sig-
ni ican challenges o he economic well-being and s abili y o coun ies wo ld-
wide. By closely analyzing his connec ion, ocusing on he di ec impac s o
clima e e en s (physical isks), he economic adjus men s needed o a g eene
u u e ( ansi ion isks), and hei wide economic e ec s, exis ing esea ch
unde sco es he need o a ho ough unde s anding o how changes in he en i-
onmen impac inancial sys ems and o e all economic s abili y.
Physical isks om clima e-induced disas e s such as hu icanes, loods, wild-
i es, and ising sea le els di ec ly damage businesses and in as uc u e, ansla -
ing in o p o ound inancial losses. The exposu e o sec o s like insu ance, eal
es a e, and ag icul u e o hese isks unde lines he mac o- inancial implica ions,
wi h inc eased insu ance claims, dep ecia ion o asse alues, and ele a ed ope a-
ional cos s leading o a po en ial slowdown in economic g ow h (NGFS, 2019).
Mo eo e , mo ing owa ds a sus ainable, low-ca bon economy in ol es se e al
ansi ion isks, especially om e o s o mi iga e clima e change h ough ca bon
p icing and p omo ing enewable ene gy. These ini ia i es equi e he inancial

om ossil uel-dependen sec o s owa ds enewable ene gy. How well he inan-
cial sec o adap s o hese changes is i al o educing c edi isks, p o ec ing
in es men e u ns, and ensu ing he s abili y o inancial ma ke s (Ca ney, 2015).
Addi ionally, clima e isks a ec in la ion, go e nmen spending, and mone a y
policy (K ogs up & Oman, 2019). Adap ing o and mi iga ing hese isks can
s ain go e nmen budge s, leading o mo e spending o highe axes and d i -
ing up he p ices o commodi ies and insu ance, con ibu ing o in la ion (Piga o,
2019). To main ain inancial and mone a y s abili y and suppo a shi owa ds
a sus ainable economy, cen al banks, and inancial egula o s a e now ac o -
ing clima e isks in o hei policy-making and egula o y p ac ices (D’O azio &
Thole, 2022). Howe e , he mac o- inancial impac s o clima e isks equi e a
coo dina ed and comp ehensi e policy app oach. Financial egula o s and policy-
make s a e c a ing amewo ks o assess and educe hese isks, employing ools
such as inancial ins i u ion s ess es ing, p omo ing enhanced clima e- ela ed
inancial disclosu es, and os e ing he de elopmen o g een inance, add ess-
ing bo h he di ec impac s o clima e e en s and he indi ec e ec s o ansi-
ioning o a low-ca bon economy (D’O azio, 2022). This adap a ion in ol es

impac o clima e isks ac oss de eloped and de eloping na ions unde sco es he
global and in e connec ed na u e o hese challenges. While de eloped coun ies
may possess g ea e esou ces o adap a ion and mi iga ion, hey, oo, ace signi -
ican economic dis up ions om clima e isks. Con e sely, despi e hei minimal
con ibu ion o global emissions, de eloping na ions encoun e disp opo iona e
challenges, highligh ing he c i ical need o in e na ional collabo a ion and sup-
po (Oke eke, 2010; Do kenoo e al., 2022).
2.2 Biodi e si y loss, en i onmen al deg ada ion, andmac o‑ inancial isks
The inc easing h ea o biodi e si y loss and en i onmen al deg ada ion endange s
na u al ecosys ems and he global inancial sys em (Tilman e al., 2017). These chal-
lenges unde sco e a c i ical eali y; i.e., he heal h o ou plane is inex icably linked
o he s abili y and p ospe i y o he global economy. This connec ion has been high-
ligh ed in seminal wo ks such as he Dasgup a (2021) Repo and h ough ini ia i es
by he Ne wo k o G eening he Financial Sys em (NGFS, 2022b), among o he s.
Bo h s ess he impo ance o na u e as he ounda ion o all economic ac i i ies,
and he esul ing discussion spu ed a call o he inclusion o en i onmen al heal h
wi hin he wide mac o- inancial amewo k o ensu e endu ing sus ainabili y and
s abili y (NGFS, 2022a).
The decline in biodi e si y, cha ac e ized by dec easing species popula ions and
educed gene ic di e si y, has p o ound implica ions o he esilience o ecosys ems
and, by ex ension, human well-being (Wiedmann e al., 2020). The loss o biodi-
e si y di ec ly impac s he abili y o na u al sys ems o p o ide essen ial se ices
such as wa e pu i ica ion, c op pollina ion, and clima e egula ion - se ices ha ,
al hough no always ecognized, a e undamen al o he unc ioning o he global
economy and he heal h o human popula ions (Ekins & Zenghelis, 2021). The
deg ada ion o hese se ices poses immedia e and se e e isks o en i onmen al
sus ainabili y and economic g ow h, highligh ing he need o a p o ound ans o -
ma ion wi hin he economy and inancial ma ke s (OECD, 2021; Acheampong &
Opoku, 2023). In pa icula , he e is a compelling need o undamen ally al e he
landscape o inancial decision-making o con on he p essing challenges o en i-
onmen al decline and biodi e si y loss. This change en ails a key shi owa ds in e-
g a ing en i onmen al isks and oppo uni ies in o he co e o inancial planning and
