The p og am chai s o JCDL 2022 in oduced some
changes o he scien i ic e iew p ocess. Fo he e y i s
ime, JCDL used a double-blind pee - e iew p ocess. A
ange o new submission ypes we e c ea ed: a iable-leng h
esea ch pape s, la e-b eaking, demos, and da ase s. This led
o in e es ing obse a ions, such as ha he a e age pape
leng h in he esea ch ack was 8.05 pages, wi h accep ed
pape s ha ing an a e age o 8.87 pages and ejec ed pape s
7.84 pages. Accep ed submissions co e ed a wide ange o
opics ac oss he ield o digi al lib a ies along wi h he ou
main opics o he call o pape s: (1) use s and in e ac ions,
(2) sea ch and ecommenda ion, (3) digi al lib a ies in p ac-
ice, and (4) con en and s uc u es.
The main con e ence p og am was o ganized in o 11 ple-
na y sessions on he ollowing opics: in o ma ion e ie al
and access, sea ch and ecommenda ion, na u al language
p ocessing, web a chi es, bibliome ics and al me ics, in o -
ma ion ex ac ion, classi ica ion, and schola ly communica-
ion. Mos o he p esen ed pape s (on-si e and online) a e
a ailable in he ollowing You ube channel.3
While scheduling he sessions, he speake s’ ime zones
we e conside ed as much as possible. We aimed o a good
balance be ween online and on-si e pa icipan s whene e

The p og am chai s o JCDL 2022 in i ed all he bes

published an open call o pape s on he IJDL websi e and
sha ed his in o ma ion wi h all au ho s a JCDL 2022. In
o al, we ecei ed 12 submissions, all by au ho s who had
pape s a JCDL 2022. All au ho s we e b ie ed ha a min-
imum o 30% addi ional ma e ials ha e o be added o
he ex ended ollow-up pape s. Gues Edi o s and e iewe s
checked his o all special issue submissions. A e an in-
dep h pee e iew, we could accep 10 o hese submissions.

2 Special issue pape s
The ollowing sec ion p o ides an o e iew o he en pape s

o he en pape s in Table 1conce ning he applica ion a ea,
used co po a, asks, and me hods in each publica ion. We see

Winschie s-Theophilus [2] in oduce his special issue wi h
hei wo k on “Implica ions o an ecospa ial indigenous pe -
spec i e on digi al in o ma ion o ganiza ion and access.”
They explo e he complexi ies o digi izing indigenous
knowledge, highligh ing he challenge posed by epis emo-
logical di e ences and he limi ed engagemen o indigenous
communi ies. They d aw on expe iences om p ojec s in
Namibia o shed ligh on how indigenous ecospa ial wo ld-
iews in luence he design o digi al in o ma ion sys ems
o accessing indigenous knowledge. Emb acing eme g-
