inclusion and economic de elopmen , and has implemen ed a ious policies o suppo he g ow h and
sus ainabili y o he sec o . One no able policy is he ‘Banca de las Opo unidades’(Banking o
Oppo uni ies) p og am, which was launched in 2006 as a join ini ia i e be ween he Colombian go -
e nmen and he p i a e sec o (Banca de las Opo unidades, 2021). The p og am aims o expand access
o inancial se ices o low-income and ma ginalized popula ions, pa icula ly in u al a eas, by p o id-
ing unding and echnical assis ance o mic o inance ins i u ions (MFIs). Th ough his p og am, he go -
e nmen has sough o c ea e an enabling en i onmen o he de elopmen o he mic o inance sec o
and o p omo e he adop ion o bes p ac ices in e ms o inancial inclusion and social impac
(Minis e io de Hacienda y C
edi o P
ublico, 2019).

he s abili y and c edibili y o he mic o inance sec o , while also ensu ing ha MFIs ope a e in a manne
ha p o ec s he in e es s o hei clien s and con ibu es o he o e all de elopmen o he inancial

he mic o inance ins i u ions o o ganiza ions ha p o ide mic o inance se ices, a he han he ecipi-
en s o mic o inance.
The esea ch aimed o iden i y he key ac o s in luencing capi al alloca ion e iciency and o assess

he p ac ices and expe iences o 21 companies in ol ed in mic o inance p ojec s, he s udy sough o
p o ide insigh s in o he challenges and oppo uni ies associa ed wi h op imizing esou ce alloca ion in
his con ex .
This sample size was de e mined h ough a s a i ied sampling echnique, which aimed o ensu e a
di e se and ep esen a i e selec ion o companies in ol ed in mic o inance ini ia i es. The esea che s
chose his app oach o cap u e he he e ogenei y o he business landscape in Ba anquilla and o assess
he gene alizabili y o he op imiza ion model ac oss di e en economic con ex s.
The selec ion p ocess in ol ed using he Ba anquilla Chambe o Comme ce da abase o ob ain eli-
able in o ma ion on company cha ac e is ics, including sec o , numbe o employees, annual e enue,
and mic o inance expe ience. The popula ion o companies was di ided in o s a a based on hese cha -
ac e is ics, and a p opo ional numbe o companies we e andomly selec ed om each s a um o be
included in he sample. This s a i ied sampling echnique ensu ed ha he sample was ep esen a i e
o he business popula ion in Ba anquilla. In he case o his s udy in Ba anquilla, he di e se sec o s
men ioned likely e e o he a ious economic ac i i ies ha mic o inance ins i u ions in he ci y sup-
po . Ba anquilla, as a majo po ci y and indus ial cen e in Colombia, has a di e se economic land-
scape. Mic o inance ins i u ions in he a ea may se e a wide ange o small businesses and
en ep eneu s ac oss di e en sec o s o he local economy. Fo example, hey migh p o ide loans o
