Seapo s play a c ucial ole in in e na ional ade and economic de elopmen . This s udy aims o analyze he
exis ing li e a u e on po acili ies o iden i y esea ch pa e ns and eme ging a eas o in e es . Using he Scopus
da abase, he esea che s sea ched o publica ions ela ed o po acili ies and ound a o al o 178 schola ly
a icles. The da a was analyzed using Mic oso Excel, Publish o Pe ish and VOS iewe . The s udy examined
subjec a eas, keywo ds, ci a ions, and Jou nal/publishe s me ics, o unde s and he key con ibu o s and
collabo a i e e o s in his ield. The indings e ealed a lack o schola ly e alua ion o po acili ies li e a u e
un il 1975. F om 1975 o 2003, he e we e 57 publica ions wi h e y ew ci a ions. Howe e , in e es in his ield
g ew signi ican ly be ween 2004 and 2023, wi h 114 publica ions and 496 ci a ions. Mos o he documen s we e
w i en in English, and he e was concen a ion o esea ch e o s in speci ic a eas. In e na ional collabo a ion
was obse ed among 12 coun ies. The s udy sugges s he need o mo e esea ch, collabo a ions, and ci a ions in
he ield o po acili ies, pa icula ly in a eas beyond enginee ing and ea h and plane a y sciences. Logis ics
managemen , compu ing, and ma i ime should be u he explo ed o add ess gaps in he cu en li e a u e.

Po acili y is an essen ial elemen o he ma i ime anspo sec o
(Song & Panayides, 2012). I includes all physical esou ces such as
be hs, quays, c anes, s o age acili ies, and anspo a ion ne wo ks
needed o he e icien unc ioning o po s (Munim & Sch amm, 2018).
The concep o seapo encompasses economic, geog aphical, and ade
unc ions on many le els (Jo i´
c e al., 2022). Ib ahimi (2017) opined
ha seapo s ha e a signi ican impac on acili a ing in e na ional ade
and os e ing b oade economic de elopmen . Since he 1990s, he
compe i ion be ween seapo s has g own signi ican ly, wi h an
inc easing numbe o seapo s se icing a single egion and he aspi a-
ion o a ac shipping lines (Mi aj, Be awi, Zagloel, Sa i & Sa oji,
2021). Acco ding o B ooks (2019), seapo s a e c ucial ga eways ha
connec na ions, and i s acili ies accele a e he e icien ansi o goods,
and se e as hubs o global ade. The impo ance o Po acili y in
p omo ing economic g ow h has inc eased wi h he g ow h o global
ade in goods (Elen ably, 2013). A mul i-c i e ia decision-making
model o selec ing he loca ion o an in e modal e minal ha will in-
c ease compe i i eness and p omo e egional in eg a ion has been p o-
posed (Wang, Wang & Ji, 2018; No eboom & Rod igue, 2009;
Cullinane, Wang & Cullinane, 2002; B ooks, 2015; Kim & Talley, 2002).

analysis encompassing h ee main aspec s: (a) iden i ying he na ions
ha made he mos signi ican con ibu ions o esea ch on Po acil-
i ies, (b) examining he p ima y ins i u ions o a ilia ions in ol ed in
his esea ch, and (c) in es iga ing au ho ship and ci a ion pa e ns,
among o he ele an ac o s.
The digi aliza ion o seapo s, which en ails he use o cu ing-edge
echnologies o imp o e po ope a ions and se ices, has a ac ed
inc easing a en ion (Jo i´
c e al., 2022; Sun, 2021). A seapo can be
conside ed a loca ion whe e wo domains, land a ic, and ma i ime
a ic in e sec and me ge. Be hs, quays, c anes, wa ehouses, and
anspo a ion ne wo ks a e jus a ew examples o he physical in a-
s uc u e equi ed o seapo s o ope a e e icien ly (Be nacki & Lis,
2021). The main challenge o seapo s, which can be hough o as
adminis a i e and ope a ional clus e s (Ib ahimi, 2017), is o build an
accep able in as uc u e sys em (Voog , 2022). Acco ding o Mi aj e al.
(2021), seapo equipmen is a mul i ace ed sys em ha combines eco-
nomic pu pose, in as uc u e amewo k, geog aphical space, and
ade. To achie e his, sma po de elopmen in eg a es cu ing-edge
echnologies o imp o e po se ices and ac i i ies (Pham, 2023).
These cla i ica ions p o ide an in-dep h unde s anding o seapo
s uc u e and highligh i s impo ance o he ma i ime anspo sec o .
To ga he knowledge abou he de ini ions and e alua ions o Po
acili y, a bibliome ic pape is equi ed. Bibliome ic analysis is a
quan i a i e me hod used o examine he body o li e a u e on a gi en
opic, including he numbe o publica ions, au ho s, and ci a ions
(Pham, Mi aj e al., & Wagne , 2019).
The exis ing body o esea ch pe aining o seapo s o po acili y
has p edominan ly concen a ed on po op imiza ion and modelling
(Alim, Beka , I ano , Unlu, B enize & Azmy, 2006), po acili ies se-
cu i y (Anyano a, 2007; Gunawan, Zauha , Sa wono & Bambang, &
Djabie e al., 2019, 2023) in ensi y and ade cos s o Po acili ies and
se ices (Re ab & Azzam, 2008), isk managemen in seapo s (Nagi
e al., 2017), po cons uc ion (Lu & Fan, & We nli e al., 2015, 2022)
po in eg a ion, (Koliousis, 2020), digi aliza ion in he po indus y

Hence, Scopus da abase was used o conduc ing a bibliome ic analysis
and mapping exe cise wi h he objec i e o enhancing comp ehension o
wo ldwide pa e ns in esea ch pe aining o he s udy a ea. The s udy
conduc ed an in es iga ion o se e al aspec s o he a ea o Po acili y,
including he g ow h o publica ions, pa e ns o coope a ion and
au ho ship, he mos ac i e ins i u ions, a o i e jou nals, p oli ic
w i e s, coun ies con ibu ions, and he iden i ica ion o op-ci ed
wo ks among o he s. This analysis spanned he ime pe iod om 1975
h ough 2023. Howe e , using only Scopus da a base is conside ed as a
limi a ion o his s udy. To his end, u he esea che s should conside
using bo h Scopus and Web o Science da a base o p o ide a nuance
unde s anding o s udies o his na u e.
In conclusion, his bibliome ic analysis seeks o p o ide a holis ic
o e iew o he esea ch landscape in Po acili y by examining a
subs an ial numbe o jou nal a icles in he ield. The indings o his
s udy is no only bene icial o schola s and p ac i ione s bu also con-
ibu es o he o e all ad ancemen o seapo esea ch. By unde -
s anding he key a eas o ocus and eme ging ends, s akeholde s can
p opel he expansion o seapo acili ies o mee he g owing demands
o in e na ional ade.

he u iliza ion o ables and bibliome ic maps. Sec ion 4 p o ides a
comp ehensi e analysis and examina ion o he indings. Sec ion 5

o u u e esea ch, and he limi s o he cu en analysis.
Me hodology
To gain a deepe insigh in o his ield, his s udy p oposed con-
duc ing a bibliome ic analysis o jou nal a icles, books, chap e s e c.,
published in he a ea o Po acili y. Bibliome ic analysis is a quan i-
a i e app oach ha explo es pa e ns, ends, and s uc u es wi hin a
body o li e a u e. By applying bibliome ic echniques, which includes
bu no limi ed o ci a ion analysis, bibliome ic coupling, co-ci a ion
analysis and keywo d analysis, he esea che s aim o iden i y in luen-
ial au ho s, leading jou nals, impac ul heo ies, and eme ging esea ch
a eas wi hin he ield o Po acili y. To conduc his s udy, comp e-
hensi e collec ion o Scopus publica ions spanning 1975–2023 was
assembled. The a icles co e all opics in Po acili y ha ha e been
published up o Augus 2023. By analyzing his co pus o a icles, he
s udy de i ed meaning ul insigh s ha can in o m u u e esea ch di-
ec ions, iden i y esea ch gaps, and suppo e idence-based decision-
making in he domain o Po acili y.
The da a was e ined using Mic oso Excel, employing app op ia e
pe cen ages and cha s. He zing’s Publish o Pe ish was employed o
assess publishing me ics, while VOS iewe was applied o isually

ables, including p ima y subjec a eas, used keywo ds, numbe o ci a-
ions, and supplemen a y me ics such as ci e sco es, SJR anking, NIPS
anking, au ho coun , and i le analysis, among o he hings.

The app oach employed in his s udy is depic ed in Fig. 1. This was
possible h ough he Scopus obus in e ace ha p o ides oppo uni y
o p ope sc eening and il e ing. Using he a icle i le, i was easie o

a he numbe s which was e y minimal, il e ing became unnecessa y.

e si i U a a Malaysia (UUM) Scopus access was used o ex ac he
needed da a on he da e and ime as indica ed in Fig. 1. Ci a ion me ics

Table 1 shows he ypes o publica ions ha we e included in he
s udy. The majo i y o he publica ions we e con e ence pape s
(49.44%) and a icles (44.94%). Book chap e s, no es, e iews, edi o-
ials, and books made up a smalle pe cen age o he publica ions. The
esul s sugges ha con e ence pape s and a icles a e he mos common
