dynamics be ween biological and a chi ec u al o ces a e p o oundly
in e wined. As he es eemed neu oscien is and a chi ec John Ebe -
ha d pos ula ed, human biology and buil o m occupy a ecip ocal
ela ionship whe e one guides he o he in an endless dance. In ecen
yea s, he con luence o ields a he nexus o neu osciences, en i on-
men al psychology, and a chi ec u al design has begun o illumina e
new possibili ies o consciously cul i a ing his biological-a chi ec u al
in e play. Th ough he pionee ing wo ks o (Rooney, Condia, and
Loschky, 2017), (Mos a a i, 2021), and (Higue a-T ujillo, Llina es, and
Macagno, 2021), he no el concep ual pa adigm o “neu o-adap i e

Func ional magne ic esonance imaging ( MRI) s udies show ha emo-
ions o igina e h ough ac i i y ac oss dis ibu ed b ain ne wo ks a he
han disc e e egions (Tou ou oglou e al., 2015). The amygdala plays a
key ole in p ocessing emo ional s imuli, pa icula ly hose ela ed o
h ea s o ewa ds (Adolphs, 2010). Howe e , emo ions also in ol e

Adap i e buildings could one day moni o dis ibu ed pa e ns o b ain

om neu oscience, psychology, compu e science, and o he disciplines
o c ea e buildings and ci ies ha can de ec human needs and eac ions
in eal ime and adap acco dingly.
Ea ly expe imen s explo ed how sub le changes in ligh ing, sound-
scapes, and in e io layou could posi i ely in luence mood, ocus, and
s ess le els (Pijanowski e al., 2011). Fo example, esea ch showed
