managemen p ac ices (DSCMP) in gene a ing a posi i e impac on i m pe o mance (FP), including bo h
di ec and indi ec in luences ia cus ome de elopmen (CD). Sma PLS 3.3.3 was used o analyze da a om
326 esponden s who egis e ed as business manage s who ope a e hei supply chains using digi al echnol-
ogies. The indings indica ed ha DSCMP, CD, and OC had a a o able impac on FP, while DSCMP and OC had
a bene icial impac on CD. I was also de e mined ha DSCMP and CD played a media ing ole in bo h o he
abo e-men ioned associa ions. DSCMP and OC a e wo essen ial enable s o de eloping a i m’s cus ome
base and imp o ing pe o mance e iciency in digi al supply chains. Based on he Resou ce Dependence The-
o y (RDT), his s udy ound ha digi aliza ion- ela ed capabili ies in supply chain managemen p ac ices mus
be de eloped inside he company o imp o e he i m’s e iciency. Fi m cul u e, accompanied by dominan
cha ac e is ics, o ganiza ional leade s, o ganiza ional glue, and s a egic emphasis should become essen ial
componen s o DSCMP in o ganiza ions.

The logis ics and supply chain sec o s a e boom-
ing and unde going massi e digi al change. The lo-
gis ics sec o was alued a 10.41 illion USD in
2022 (S a is a, 2023). Amazon and a slew o s a -
ups a e using whole new business models and le-
e aging e ol ing echnologies such as blockchain,
A i icial In elligence (AI), he In e ne o Things
(IoT), In o ma ion and Communica ion Technolo-
gies (ICT) o adically al e he u u e o logis ics.
The apid change in echnology de elopmen and
implemen a ion has o ced businesses and soci-
e y o e hink p oduc s, consump ion, and supply
chain managemen (Jiang e al., 2023; Nandi e al.,
2021). COVID-19 esul ed in p oduc sho ages,
he incapabili y o sou ce goods in a physical op-
e a ion s uc u e, and a misalliance be ween he
dimensions and quan i ies o goods a ailable and
wha was equi ed (Quei oz e al., 2020). I also
impac ed he i m pe o mances and s ock ma -

Supply chain managemen has ecei ed inc eas-
ing a en ion as a c i ical ac o in inc easing i m
pe o mance (Golicic & Smi h, 2013; Hsu e al.,
2009; Ou e al., 2010; Su adi e al., 2020). Howe e ,
he use o supply chain managemen p ac ices e-
qui es mu ual adap ion and conside a ion o he
global con ex , and he equi emen s o he digi al
e olu ion (Khan, 2019; Mukhe jee e al., 2023).
The dis up i e change expe iences ha e highligh ed
he inno a ion in supply chain managemen p ac-
ices, which equi e hese issues o be add essed
om a heo e ical and a p ac ical pe spec i e (Al-
ay & Pal, 2023; Fa es e al., 2023; Gligo e al., 2018;
Zinn & Goldsby, 2017). Supply chains play a pi -
o al pa in he daily ac i i ies o en e p ises and in
global de elopmen (Ga ay-Ronde o e al., 2020;
Min e al., 2019) . Ga ay-Ronde o e al. (2020) in-
dica ed ha he high speed o changes in he mac o
en i onmen , including economic, inancial, social,
and pa icula echnological aspec s, has led o
apid ans o ma ion in supply chain managemen
p ac ices (Mish a e al., 2023; Philsoophian e al.,
2022; Tu e al., 2018). Wi h he aim o suppo ing
o ganiza ions’ a emp o gain compe i i e ad an-
age in a si ua ion o en i onmen al unce ain y,
many esea che s ha e ocused on paying a en ion
o he s a egic alignmen be ween o ganiza ions’

e al., 2008; Sung & Kim, 2019). F om he supply

e al., 2020). Wi h he signi ican impac o he CO-
VID-19 pandemic (Le in e al., 2020), global sup-
ply chain ac oss all sec o s and indus ies ha e been
acing dis up ion because o he lack o pe sonal
p o ec i e equipmen among o he ac o s (Ranney
e al., 2020; Sączewska-Pio owska & Pio owski,
2021). Sho ages o pe sonal p o ec i e ki s such
as ace masks and hand sani ize s, and e en basic
ood i ems like b ead, eggs, and milk, and he lock-
down and semi-lockdown policies o go e nmen s,
dis up ed all o ganiza ions’ ope a ional ac i i ies
(Jianyin e al., 2020). Fi ms no only aced in e -
nal obs acles such as how o main ain ope a ions,
main ain employees (Jianyin e al., 2020), and os e
o ganiza ional cul u es, bu also had o deal wi h
losing cus ome s (loyal cus ome s, cu en cus om-
e s, and po en ial cus ome s) and also he ising
aw ma e ials cos like oil, gasoline, na u al gas,
e hanol, palm oil, hea ing oil and e en CO2 emis-
sions allowances (Ma ínez e al., 2022; Olakojo,
Onanuga, & Onanuga, 2021). I is c i ical o com-

ing scena ios o supply chain p ac ices use digi al
echnologies in he cu en indus ial e olu ion?

The pu pose o his s udy was o examine he im-
pac s o DSCMP and OC on i m pe o mance, and
hei indi ec in luence media ed h ough cus ome
de elopmen (CD). Fi s , his s udy aimed o iden-
i y gene al DSCM echniques ha may be used o
assess business pe o mance. Second, he esea ch
looked a whe he DSCMP and OC a e now as es-
sen ial o businesses as hey we e be o e he CO-
VID-19 pandemic. Thi d, his esea ch in es iga ed
whe he cus ome de elopmen plays a media ing
unc ion in he connec ion be ween DSCMP and

Theo y (RDT)

and p o i abili y and expand business ope a ion
especially in supply chain managemen (Hand ield,
1993; Jiang e al., 2023; Sung & Kim, 2019). In e -
o ganiza ional connec ions a e iewed as a way
o ob aining necessa y esou ces and imp o ing
con ol o e esou ce supply in RDT (Gal ão e al.,
2019). RDT is used o in es iga e he in e ac ion
be ween en i onmen al unce ain ies (demand,
supply, and echnology) and s a egic supply
managemen , as supplie manage s a emp o
achie e mu ual bene i s, access o unique esou ces,
and a educ ion in en i onmen al isks (Gal ão e
al., 2019).
Thus, RDT pays a en ion o de e mining
how companies can build, and main ain such
in e dependence and educe unce ain y be ween
pa ne s. Supply chain managemen is one
a emp o o e come inna e weaknesses h ough
collabo a i e ac i i y in a ola ile business
en i onmen . In he supply chain managemen
con ex , coope a ion be ween i ms aims o
achie e common a ge s and coo dina e supply
chain ac i i ies, as a esul , such i ms become
inc easingly dependen on each o he (Sung &
Kim, 2019). In hei in e connec edness, hey mus

and seek s abili y. Acco ding o RDT, in adi ional
supply chain managemen , all membe s wan o
a oid becoming o e ly elian on o he s and a e
mo e likely o ely on hei own en e p ises o

e al., 1991; Sung & Kim, 2019). The adop ion
o ad anced echnologies, digi aliza ion-based
indus ial ma ke ing, and pu chasing echniques
(Mukhe jee e al., 2023) allows collabo a ing i ms
o acili a e esou ce, in o ma ional, and social
in e dependencies o imp o e esilience (Liu e
al., 2023), ans o ma ion (Hu e e al., 2023) and
inno a ion (Ly as e al., 2022). When businesses
de elop ela ionship-speci ic capabili ies, hey can
de elop compe encies ha a e signi ican ly supe io
o hei own and gain a compe i i e ad an age
based on mu ual us a he han he agg essi e
exploi a ion o collabo a i e pa ne s (Akh a e al.,
2023). The ela ionship be ween digi al pla o ms
and ope a ional pe o mance can be media ed
by supply chain compe ence. Digi al cul u e is a
con ex ual componen ha explains why he e ec s
o digi al pla o ms on business pe o mance di e
(Hau ala-Kankaanpää, 2022).

(DSCMP)
Supply chain managemen has wi nessed a huge
change in i s ole in o ganiza ions be ween being a pu e
ope a ional unc ion and becoming an independen
supply chain managemen unc ion (A a an, 2020;
Sha ma & Joshi, 2023). Supply chain managemen
is seen as he pi o al pa o e e y business ac i i y

The digi al economy has changed supply chains
d ama ically in ecen yea s. In oday's economy,
he ela ionships be ween people (A a e al., 2022),
machines, channels, and o ganiza ions, which a e
suppo ed by digi al echnology, c ea e alue o he
business, allowing i o gain a compe i i e ad an age
(A a an, 2020; Dubey e al., 2023). Powe ul
echnologies in he digi al economy suppo supply
chain ad anced supply chain analy ics. Wi h he s ong
impac o echnology de elopmen , o ganiza ions can
es uc u e hei supply chain managemen o enable
be e isibili y, spi i uali y (Ríos-Pé ez e al., 2022),
be e insigh s and collabo a ion (Khan & Muji aba,
2023), and sho en cus ome s’ and pa ne s’ esponse
imes (A a an, 2020; Chase, 2019). The e is much
echnology ha con ibu es o he ad ances in change
o supply chain sys ems, including Cloud Technology,
IOT, Addi i e Manu ac u ing, Ad anced Robo ics,
Ad anced Analysis, Blockchain Technology, Augmen
Reali y (AR) (Liu e al., 2023; Philsoophian e al.,
2022). The e olu ion o in o ma ion echnology has
enabled i ms wi h sma manu ac u ing, au onomous
ehicles, and in elligen echnological business sys em
such as PPC (P oduc ion Planning & Con ol),
ERP (En e p ise Resou ce Planning), and SCADA
(Supe iso y Con ol and Da a Acquisi ion) o use
supply chain managemen based on he in eg a ion o
he e ogeneous da a and complex knowledge. A i icial
in elligence (AI) and in elligen echnologies a e
he la es echnological inno a ions in supply chain
managemen , wi h signi ican bene i s o businesses
(Helo & Hao, 2021).
The IoT is a global digi al pla o m o indi idually
accessible objec s wi h iden i ying, ne wo king, and
ac ua ion capabili ies connec ed o he In e ne , which
imp o es he connec ions be ween hings and humans,
humans and machines, and hings and machines
(La do, Mancini, Paoloni, & Russo, 2020). Because o
i s ising po ency, he IoT is a ounda ion echnology
o cybe -physical sys ems ha enable he de elopmen
o sel - egula ing, au onomous, knowledge-based,
and senso -based manu ac u ing sys ems (Ho mann
& Rüsch, 2017). These cha ac e is ics o high
echnology in supply chain managemen sys em help
i ms o achie e compe i i e ad an age in a dynamic
en i onmen . Supply chain managemen (SCM) plays
a huge ole in he e ec i e ope a ional ac i i ies o a
i m, and consis s o unc ional en i ies and p ac ices
o imp o ing indi idual i ms’ and hei supply chains’
long- e m compe i i e pe o mance (Al-Shboul e
al., 2017; Kim, 2006). While he p ominence o he
whole supply chain and he deg ee o in o ma ion
a ailable wi hin he i m a e no op imal o many
o ganiza ions, especially du ing he Co id-19
pandemic (Seyedgho ban e al., 2020), SCM has
accele a ed he p ocess o digi izing i m p ocesses,
and in eg a ing mul iple s akeholde s and esou ces
o assu e ha goods a e in synch oniza ion wi h
cus ome demands, and ha businesses can achie e
whole-sys em compe i i e ad an age goals (Hau ala-
Kankaanpää, 2022). Digi al SCM is de ined as using
a cen ic pla o m o an in elligen , alue-d i en
echnological sys em and ne wo k o ga he and
synch onize ins an aneous in o ma ion o igina ing
om many sou ces, and o ope a e he business in
inno a i e ways wi h echnology and analy ics, o
p oduce new e ec i eness, p o i s, and business alue
(Büyüközkan & Göçe , 2018; Ga ay-Ronde o e al.,
2020). To ope a e smoo hly, he digi aliza ion o SCs
should main ain all he knowledge and in o ma ion
o adi ional SCs while ans o ming he chain’s
p ocedu es, managemen componen s, and lows
because he eme ging and specialized ma ke s equi e
quick eac ions. Combining he de ini ion o SCM and
digi aliza ion, his s udy used he concep o DSCMP
as a se o ac i i ies pe o med ia a digi al pla o m o
bes - i echnology sys em o p omo e a i m’s e ec i e
supply chain managemen (Li e al., 2006). Al hough
esea che s ha e p oposed many componen s o SCM,
in line wi h he digi al con ex , his s udy examined
ou cha ac e is ics o SCMPs: cus ome ela ionships
T uong e al. (2017), supplie ela ionships (Su adi
e al.), in o ma ion quali y (Jajja, Asi , Mon abon, &
Cha ha), and in o ma ion sha ing (IS) (Amedo u e al.,
2019; Gunaseka an e al., 2017; Li e al., 2006).

e ailing sys ems (Mukhe jee e al., 2023). Be ween
supplie s and cus ome s, blockchain can es ablish a
new ou e o dis ibu ion and communica ion. Re ail
SC employees use blockchain in hei e ail SC because
o i s p omise and e ec i eness.

OC has gene a ed sys ema ic s udies (B aunscheidel
e al., 2010). P e ious esea ch ound ha

(Klimas, 2016). A collec i is cul u e has been is ound

i m compe i i eness (P esbi e o e al., 2017). Fi ms
may be luid, adap able, and esponsi e sys ems o
di e se alen ed indi iduals who pe o m a a ie y o
asks ha can gene a e e ec i e, adical ideas, based
on he implemen a ion o mechanical s uc u es and
bu eauc a ic p ocesses (G een & Cluley, 2014). Unde
high compe i i e p essu e and a apidly changing
ma ke demand, i ms a e encou aged o look o
ela ional capi al o c ea e p oac i e en i onmen al
s a egies. Ma ke p essu e and en i onmen al s a egy
a e mode a ed by a lexibili y-con ol o ien a ion
(Dai e al., 2018), p oac i e cus ome o ien a ion,
collabo a i e lea ning capabili y (Jean e al., 2017),

& Zhang, 2017), which is a ypical depic ion o

P e e , 2003). Raw ma e ial and ene gy sho ages
induced by geopoli ical a ia ions in p oduc ion

economic en i onmen . Acco ding o Deepu and Ra i
(2021), o build success ul SC digi aliza ion decision-
making, i ms c ea e an e ec i e managemen cul u e
such as in eg a ed decision suppo sys em consis ing
o Da a, In o ma ion, Knowledge, and Wisdom)
(DIKW) (Deepu & Ra i, 2021). The cul u al o ien a ion
o digi al ans o ma ion, us , and coope a i e
p oblem-sol ing may be qui e bene icial in building he
dynamic capabili y o DSCMP (Fa uquee e al., 2021).
While in e - i m coope a ion be ween smallholde s
and subsequen ac o s is suppo ed by digi alized
ag icul u al alue chains (Ha mann e al., 2020),
cul u al dimensions play a dominan ole in SCM
success (Luu, 2019; Mello & S ank, 2005). Sma phones
ha e become mo e impo an o smallholde s since
hey a e used in alue chains o digi al ac i i ies.
The le el o SCM in eg a ion and p ac ices (i.e.,
us , communica ion, and commi men ) and alue
gene a ion is hea ily in luenced by he pa ne i m’s
cul u e (Cao e al., 2015; Sambasi an & Nge Yen, 2010)
. Sus ainable pu chasing p ac ices and sus ainable
supply p ac ices a e in luenced by cul u al o ien a ions,
whe e local communi y o ien ed p ese a ion cul u es
d i e sus ainable supply p ac ices (Ma iadoss e al.,
2016), he dynamic capabili ies o sensing, seizing, and
ans o ming, a e conside ed o be an aspec o cul u al
beha io used in add essing new oppo uni ies and
h ea s c ea ed by echnology (Schoemake e al., 2018).
This agili y sensing is he capaci y o iden i y, de elop,
co-de elop, and assess new echnological oppo uni ies
o SCM and h ea s ela ed o cus ome s’ needs
(Fa uquee e al., 2021; Hu e e al., 2023). Addi ionally,

(Chunsheng e al., 2020; Jajja e al., 2019; Sambasi an

4.1. Measu emen Model

e-examined cons uc -le el eliabili y and alidi y,
as well as in e -co ela ions be ween la en a iables
o i s -o de cons uc s (Table 5).
The con i ma o y composi e analysis examines
he measu emen (sa u a ed) model's o e all i .
(Beni ez e al., 2018). Addi ionally, a con i ma o y
composi e analysis e eals any model miss equi e-
men s and helps assess whe he i makes sense o
es ablish he sugges ed cons uc (Hensele , 2017).
Based on he guiding p inciple o Beni ez e al.
(2018), con i ma o y composi e analysis compa es
he empi ical co ela ion ma ix wi h he model-
implied co ela ion ma ix o de e mine he ad-
equacy o he composi e model (i.e., highe -o de
model). To examine he goodness o sa u a ed
model i , he s anda dized oo means squa e e-
sidual (SRMR), unweigh ed leas squa es (ULS)
disc epancy (dULS), and geodesic disc epancy
(dG) we e used.
In conclusion, he indica o s lend empi ical sup-
po o he ques ion o whe he he la en a iables
exis and whe he he indica o s c ea e a highe -
o de cons uc . As an absolu e measu e o model
i c i e ion, he SRMR calcula es he a e age mag-
ni ude o he di e ences be ween obse ed and
expec ed co ela ions. The SRMR alue was 0.049,
which is less han he 0.080 c i e ion. Addi ionally,
he 95% quan ile o hei espec i e e e ence dis i-
bu ions (HI95) was below all disc epancy measu es
(dULS and dG) (Table 7). The ou comes showed
ha he composi e cons uc 's measu emen s uc-
u e was accu a e.
4.2. S uc u al Model
The s uc u al model was e alua ed once he
measu emen model was con i med o be sound.
We i s looked a he s uc u al model o see
whe he i had oo much mul icollinea i y. E alua-
ion o he VIF o each o he p edic o cons uc s
showed ha he highes VIF alue was 3.094, which
was less han he h eshold o 5 (Hai e al., 2010).
As a esul , collinea i y be ween he p edic o con-
s uc s was no a majo p oblem in he model. The
coe icien o de e mina ion (R2) o DSCMP, CD,
and FP we e 0.461, 0.649, and 0.691, espec i ely.
This means ha abou 46.1 pe cen o he a ia ion
in DSCMP was p edic ed by o ganiza ional cul u e,
64.9 pe cen o he a ia ion in CD is p edic ed by
DSCMP and o ganiza ional cul u e, and abou 69.1
pe cen o he a ia ion in i m pe o mance was
p edic ed by o ganiza ional cul u e, DSCMP, and
CD. These ep esen mode a e le els o de e mina-
ion (Hai e al., 2017).
We e alua ed he S one – Geisse ’ s Q2 alue
(Geisse , 1974; S one, 1974), which demons a es
he model’s p edic i e ele ance. The Q2 alues
o he model’s endogenous a iables we e g ea e
han 0, which showed he p edic i e ele ance o
he cons uc s (Hai e al., 2017), con i ming he
quali y o he s uc u al model. To analyze he e -
ec size (F2) o he hypo hesized ela ionships, we
used Cohen’s (1988) ecommenda ion, wi h 0.02,
0.15, and 0.35 indica ing small, medium, and la ge
e ec s, espec i ely. OC was ound o ha e a la ge
e ec o 0.854 on DSCMP, a small e ec o 0.059
on cus ome de elopmen , and a medium e ec o
0.024 on i m pe o mance. DSCMP was ound o
ha e a la ge e ec o 0.669 on cus ome de elop-
men and a medium e ec o 0.177 on i m pe o -
mance. CD also had a medium e ec o 0.157 on
i m pe o mance.
We e alua ed he esul s o he hypo hesized
pa hs by examining hei pa h coe icien s, - alues
and p- alues, and e ec sizes. The esul s o he hy-
po hesis es ing a e p esen ed in Figu e 2 and Table
7. The indings showed ha all hypo hesized ela-
ionships we e posi i ely signi ican . H1 was sup-

in unde de eloped na ions should also be augh
DSCMP echniques so ha hey can be e ope a e
hei supply chains o imp o ed CD and FP. Supply

expe , should be es ablished by la ge i ms and

nesses ha a e abou o be es ablished. The DSCMP
