This handbook is aimed a ‘non- adi ional’ s uden s and g adua es who a e looking o some suppo in

By ‘non- adi ional’ we mean s uden s and g adua es om communi ies and g oups who a e, in some way, unde -
ep esen ed in uni e si y. This includes qui e a di e se ange o g oups such as ma u e s uden s, wo king class
s uden s, s uden s om e hnic mino i ies and s uden s wi h disabili ies.
O e he pas wen y yea s o so uni e si ies ac oss Eu ope ha e begun o open hei doo s o non- adi ional
s uden s. This has eno mously en iched uni e si ies making hem mo e ib an , in e es ing and genuinely
ep esen a i e ins i u ions. We wish o ensu e ha hese s uden s a e ully suppo ed h oughou he a ious

inequali ies in educa ion, wo k and socie y a e deeply oo ed in Eu ope. Such inequali ies canno be ackled by
indi iduals alone.
Consequen ly, we hink a no ion o ‘employabili y’ as some hing ha is amed as he sole esponsibili y o
g adua es, and all he assump ions ha equen ly go wi h ha , needs o be in e oga ed. I is om his c i ical
