einsu ance can acili a e g ow h and expansion in he insu ance business. Focusing on
he insu ance sec o in he eme ging Spanish economy and using a no el da ase on i e
insu ance companies, his pape examines he ole o i e insu ance in he capi al
o ma ion, he impo ance o einsu ance as a ehicle o expanding he coun y’s
domes ic unde w i ing capaci y, and how he capi al impo impac ed on he balance o
paymen , om he in oduc ion o he i s comp ehensi e legisla ion ega ding

condi ions a ec ing Spanish companies? To iden i y such condi ions, we employ a
no el and ex ensi e da ase including bo h domes ic Spanish i e insu ance companies
and o eign o ices, o which we ha e ca ego ized i m-speci ic and sys emic
p e e ences such as na ionali y.
