Rou e". This p ojec assumes as a guideline, he p ese a ion o

ishe men, which has in place o Caxinas and Poça da Ba ca one
o he la ges ishing communi ies in he coun y.

communi ies a e coas al communi ies ha use esou ces ha ely

hei li elihood and ood. These communi ies a e he e ogeneous,
wi h complex his o ies, in e -g oup dynamics, and pa e ns o
esou ce use (Ch is ie, 2005). A dis inc ly ma i ime socie y is one

dynamics as a de e mining ac o and whose popula ion
de elops speci ic social p ocesses and dynamics. The e o e,

FOR THE INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL

skills and compe ences ha enable hem o manage in o ma ion
as a esou ce (Du a and Ba bosa, 2020) and hei aining is
cu en ly de eloped in he In o ma ion Science o um, which
(Ga cia, 2007, p. 140) de ines as “an applied social science: ha
in es iga es he p oblems, hemes and cases ela ed o he
pe cep ible and knowable in o-communica ion phenomenon
h ough he con i ma ion o no o he p ope ies inhe en o he
genesis o in o ma ional low, o ganiza ion and beha io (o igin,

echnological pa adigm, we a e also wi nessing he
c ys alliza ion o a new phenomenon, wi h consequences in
e ms o he ( e)posi ioning o IP in he in ocommunica ion
p ocess, aking in o accoun ha , namely wi h he gene aliza ion
o he In e ne , use s can be simul aneously p oduce s and
ecei e s o in o ma ion.
The IP can, in his con ex , play a leading ole in his ype o
p ojec s as he p oximi y be ween Tou ism and In o ma ion
Science is in ensi ied by he cha ac e is ic o he disciplina y
in eg a ion p ocess, o en a ound he same objec (in o ma ion).

he one hand, he enhance o he p ese a ion o his he i age,
bu , on he o he hand, he de elopmen o ou is se ices and

(Ma ins and Ca alho, 2018a, 2018b, 2018c). Thus, i is in ended
