i al global conce n a ec ing billions o people wo ldwide (Kumssa e al., 2015;Ho mann
e al., 2020;Dobe mann e al., 2022). Any s ess (bio ic o abio ic) can dis up plan
me abolism and lead o educed g ow h, fi ness, and p oduc i i y (Hossain and Die z, 2016;
Ahmed e al., 2020). Unde s anding c op physiological and biochemical esponses o
ad e se en i onmen al condi ions is c i ical (Bashi e al., 2021). Mine al nu i ion is one o
he mos e ec i e ways o educe a ious s esses in c ops o inc ease yield and quali y. I
plays a c ucial ole in he esponse o plan s o bo h bio ic and abio ic s esses (Ma schne
and Cakmak, 1989;Cakmak, 2005;Wa aich e al., 2011;Ma schne , 2012;Elme and

ole ance. Mechanisms unde lying he ole o mine al nu i ion and i s in e ac ions wi h

Ni ogen me abolism in c ops is c ucial o a ious physiological p ocesses and plan
g ow h, especially in s aple c ops like ea. In his e iew, Zhang e al. summa ized he
cu en in o ma ion on he unde lying mechanisms o iden i y key egula o s in unc ional

e ficiency (NUE) in ice unde saline condi ions. The esea ch
in ol ed 2,391 ice accessions g own unde wo ni ogen
condi ions and wo NaCl concen a ions o assess d y weigh . A
o al o 55 QTLs associa ed wi h he e alua ed ai s we e iden ified,
wi h 28 being no el disco e ies. These findings o e aluable
gene ic esou ces o imp o ing NUE in ice, pa icula ly in
saline en i onmen s.
