In this paper, a broad analysis is presented of the main types of learning difficulties encountered by students in science education and causes underlying them.

lea ning s yles is no less di icul . Ho s ein and Kempa
(1985), ollowing a sugges ion by Ada (1969), made a
limi ed a emp in his di ec ion in ela ion o science
lea ning. This was based on he p emise ha s uden s'
lea ning s yles a e e lec ed in hei p e e ences o , s
dislike o , pa icula ins uc ional p ocedu es. Recen ly,
Kempa and Ma in (1989) ha e explo ed his a ea
empi ically. (See also Kempa and Ma ín Díaz 1990
a, b.)
