o e a one season pe iod. Odds a io (OR) and ela i e isk (RR) we e calcula ed based on he weeks
o high and low load o o al dis ance (TD), high-speed dis ance (HSD), sp in dis ance (SPD). and
epea ed sp in s (RS). The Poisson dis ibu ion es ima ed he in e al ime be ween he las inju y and
he new inju y. The weeks wi h high-load le els inc eased he isk o non-con ac inju y associa ed
wi h TD (OR: 4.1; RR: 2.4), HSD (OR: 4.6; RR: 2.6), SPD (OR: 6.9; RR: 3.7), and RS (OR: 4.3; RR: 2.7).
The ime be ween inju ies was signi ican ly longe in weeks o low-load in TD ( a e a io ime (RRT)
1.5 s. 4.2), HSD (RRT: 1.6 s. 4.6), and SPD (RRT: 1.7 s. 7.7) compa ed o weeks o high-load. The
indings highligh an inc eased isk o non-con ac inju ies du ing high weekly sp in wo kloads.
Possibly, TD, HSD, and SPD measu ed ia a wea able ine ial measu emen uni could be modeled
o ack aining and o educe non-con ac inju ies. Finally, he in e al ime be ween he las inju y
and he new inju y a he high-load is sho e han he low-load.

2. Ma e ials and Me hods
2.1. Pa icipan s
Twen y-one socce playe s [age (yea ), 28.3

ull season (2018–2019 yea s). These playe s had mo e han 8 yea s o p o essional playing
expe ience. The c i e ion o en e ing he pa icipan s’ in o ma ion in o he analysis was
ha hey had pa icipa ed in a leas h ee aining sessions pe week. The c i e ion o
excluding pa icipan s’ da a in he analysis was ha da a was no a ailable o 2 consecu i e
weeks o hey had no pa icipa ed o les 2 consecu i e weeks in he aining. Also,
goalkeepe s’ da a we e elimina ed in his s udy. Based on a powe analysis o esul s om
p e ious s udies, we belie ed a sample size o 21 was adequa e o educe he isk o a
Type 2 e o [

app o al wi h he ele an au ho i ies and he head coach in he club. P io o commencing
he s udy, he app o al o he esea ch e hics commi ee om he Uni e si y o Is ahan

acco ding o he human s udies in he Helsinki Decla a ion.
2.2. S udy Design
The design o he p ospec i e coho s udy was pe o med in a ull season du ing
he Pe sian Gul P o League and knockou ou namen . Ex e nal load moni o ing was
pe o med by GPS (GPSPORTS sys ems P y L d, Model: SPI High Pe o mance Uni (HPU),
Canbe a, Aus alia) a each aining and ma ch session o e he whole season. All non-
con ac inju ies ( ha is, occu ing wi hou con ac wi h o eign ma e ial o a hle es) we e
eco ded du ing he season. Du ing he ull season, 7-weeks conges ed play (i.e., wo o
mo e ma ches wi hin 7-days), 30-weeks non-conges ed play; 44 ma ches, 11-weeks wi h no
compe i ions, 200 aining sessions, and 14,126.9 minu es o ime play and sessions we e
held. Almos all aining sessions and compe i ions we e held on a na u al g ass ield.
The eam be ween weeks 26 o 32 (mid-season b eak) was a he In e na ional Camp in
Tu key. The unning a iables eco ded, du ing he season, o his s udy included: TD,

a hle es, model SPI HPU ea u es included: 15 Hz posi ion GPS, dis ance, and speed
measu emen ; accele ome e : 100 Hz, 16 G T i-Axial-T ack impac s, accele a ions, and
decla a ions as well as da a sou ce body load (BL); Mag: 50 Hz, T i-Axial; dimensions:
74 mm ×42 mm ×16 mm

IBM SPSS 25 and R S udio 3.6.2 (S a is ical Compu ing, Vienna, Aus ia). we e used
o he s a is ical analyses. A desc ip i e s a is ical analysis was pe o med, indica ing
he mean alues and SD o he “high-load” and “low-load” le els o he a iables “TD”,
“HSD”, “SPD”, and “RS”, as well as he o al alues. Non-pa ame ic Mann–Whi ney U
es s we e used o compa e he median o he load le els o he p e ious a iables, checking
he exis ence o s a is ically signi ican di e ences be ween hem. A es o no mali y,
Kolmogo o –Smi no , e i ied ha he a iable “Numbe o inju ies”, did no ollow a
no mal dis ibu ion. Addi ionally, a desc ip i e analysis o he numbe o inju ies p oduced
in he weeks o high and low load o each one o he a iables was comple ed, as well as
he calcula ion o he means o each one o hem, bo h o he wo le els o load, as well
as o he o al. In o de o de ec s a is ically signi ican in e -g oup di e ences be ween
he means o inju ies a he “high-load” and “low-load” le els o he “TD”, “HSD”, “SPD”,
and “RS” a iables, non-pa ame ic es s we e used, conside ing, as ac o s, he load le els
o each a iable. A con as o p opo ions de e mined i signi ican di e ences exis ed
be ween he le els o “high-load” and “low-load” o each a iable and he weeks wi h
inju y. To es ima e he isk o ha ing a high-load le el compa ed o a low-load le el,
espec i ely, o each a iable, OR and RR we e calcula ed, in addi ion o he espec i e
con idence in e als (CI) 95%. Finally, he a iable “Numbe o inju ies” ollowed a Poisson
dis ibu ion, allowing he pe o mance o a Poisson es , ob aining he lambda alues
(a e age numbe o inju ies pe week o each le el o load o each a iable), and he
expec ed ime un il a new inju y occu ed, once one had occu ed. Possible signi ican
di e ences be ween load le els we e examined ia calcula ing Ra e Ra ios, as well as
espec i e CI 95%. The le el o signi icance was se a p< 0.05 and p< 0.001 o all s ages.
3. Resul s
A desc ip i e analysis o he high- and low-load le els o he TD, HSD, SPD, and RS
a iables a e p esen ed in Table 1. S a is ically signi ican di e ences be ween “high-” and
“low-” load le els we e obse ed in all a iables.

o TD, HSD, SD, and RS.
Signi ican di e ences we e ound (p< 0.05) in he p opo ion o inju y- ee weeks
be ween high- and low-load weeks in all a iables s udied. The OR and RR o p oducing
some inju y wi hou con ac was signi ican ly highe in he weeks o high load compa ed
o he weeks o low load in each one o he a iables o in e es . Simila ly, signi ican RR

4. Discussion
This s udy in es iga ed he ela ionship be ween GPS-de i ed wo kload and non-
con ac inju ies in p o essional socce playe s. The p esen da a highligh ha he weeks
o high-load le els inc ease he isk o non-con ac inju y wi hin socce playe s. Based on
ou esul s, TD, HSD, and SPD a iables could po en ially ack aining and may allow
exe cise p esc ip ion o educe non-con ac inju ies. Finally, acco ding o he a e a ios
calcula ed, he in e al ime be ween he las non-con ac inju y and he new inju y du ing
high-load aining in TD, HSD, and SPD) is sho e han du ing low-load aining.
The ela ionship be ween non-con ac inju ies and di e en le els o load o ind
he expec ed ime un il a new non-con ac inju y was p esen ed ia ORs and RRs. All
a iables we e signi ican excep o he RS a iable in RR (Table 3). TD and HSD we e

5. Conclusions

and SPD o GPS a iables could ack aining and may allow exe cise p esc ip ion o
educe non-con ac inju ies. Finally, he in e al ime be ween he p e ious inju y and a
new inju y du ing high load aining is sho e han du ing low load aining. The cu en
da a p o ide an impo an con ibu ion ha may be aluable o suppo he decisions o
coaches and p ac i ione s when hey ha e o choose he bes GPS a iables o obse e
non-con ac inju ies, o educe he amoun o sp in ing du ing p o essional socce seasons,
