In oduc ion:
The banking sec o has unde gone a p o ound ans o ma ion in ecen yea s, d i en
la gely by ad ances in digi al echnologies. Among hese, A i icial In elligence (AI) has
eme ged as a game-change , eshaping how banks ope a e, in e ac wi h cus ome s, and manage
isks. “AI is eimagining he way banks se e cus ome s, conduc ope a ions, and manage
isks.”1 T adi ionally, banking se ices we e labo -in ensi e and ime-consuming, elying
hea ily on human in e en ion o decision-making and execu ion. Howe e , wi h inc easing
da a olumes, ising cus ome expec a ions, and he g owing h ea o aud, con en ional
sys ems ha e p o en inadequa e in ensu ing e iciency and secu i y. AI has enabled banks o
adop sma e solu ions such as cha bo s o cus ome se ice, p edic i e models o c edi
sco ing, aud de ec ion algo i hms, and pe sonalized inancial ecommenda ions. By le e aging
machine lea ning, na u al language p ocessing, and da a analy ics, banks a e now able o educe
cos s, imp o e decision accu acy, and p o ide eal- ime solu ions o cus ome s. The use o AI
has also accele a ed inancial inclusion by making banking se ices mo e accessible and
e icien o a wide popula ion. “Acco ding o a ecen RBI epo , "gene a i e AI is poised o

o India (SBI) ha e deployed AI-powe ed moni o ing sys ems capable o lagging anomalies in eal ime, helping
educe audulen ac i i ies. Cus ome se ice has seen a majo ans o ma ion wi h cha bo s like HDFC’s EVA, which
can esol e millions o que ies quickly and accu a ely. AI has also s eamlined c edi sco ing and loan p ocessing, as in
he case o ICICI Bank, whe e app o als ha ea lie ook days a e now comple ed wi hin minu es. In pe sonalized
banking and ma ke ing, banks such as Axis Bank le e age AI-d i en ecommenda ions o be e ma ch inancial

In 2017, HDFC Bank launched EVA (Elec onic Vi ual Assis an ), one o India’s i s AI-powe ed banking
cha bo s, de eloped in collabo a ion wi h Sense o h AI Resea ch. The cha bo was designed o enhance cus ome
se ice by p o iding ins an esponses and educing he wo kload o call cen e s. “Wi hin he i s six mon hs o launch,
EVA demons a ed signi ican success, handling o e 2.7 million cus ome que ies, in e ac ing wi h 530,000 unique
use s, and engaging in 1.2 million con e sa ions.”5 As ETCIO.com highligh s, “E a cu en ly handles 50,000 plus
seman ic a ia ions o housands o banking- ela ed in en s … E a ne e sleeps and he lea ning ne e s ops!”6 This

Case S udy 2: ICICI Bank – Robo ic P ocess Au oma ion (India)
ICICI Bank has been a pionee in adop ing Robo ic P ocess Au oma ion (RPA) o s eamline i s in e nal p ocesses and
imp o e e iciency. “The bank in oduced o e 750 so wa e obo s ha handle p ocesses such as Know You
Cus ome (KYC) e i ica ion, compliance checks, loan p ocessing, and ansac ion moni o ing. Acco ding o he bank,
hese bo s a e capable o comple ing asks up o 85% as e han manual ope a ions while ensu ing accu acy and
compliance.”7
As Chanda Kochha , he o me CEO o ICICI Bank, s a ed in an in e iew, “We a e using so wa e obo ics in o e

The S a e Bank o India (SBI) launched i s lagship digi al pla o m YONO (You Only Need One) in 2017, in eg a ing
a i icial in elligence o p o ide pe sonalized inancial se ices and p oduc ecommenda ions. “YONO has become one
o he la ges digi al banking pla o ms in India, a ac ing o e 60 million egis e ed use s and con ibu ing o nea ly
40% o he bank’s new sa ings accoun s”.9
Acco ding o Dinesh Kuma Kha a, Chai man o SBI, “YONO has been a he o e on o ou digi al ans o ma ion,
o e ing seamless banking and li es yle se ices on a single pla o m.” 10 AI-d i en ea u es o YONO analyze
