incidence a ies om 1 in 5,000 o 1 in 20,000 p egnancies and is ising due o he global
inc ease in cesa ean deli e ies. Despi e i s a i y, an epa um up u e emains a signi ican cause
o ma e nal and pe ina al mo bidi y and mo ali y, especially in low- esou ce se ings.
Me hods. This li e a u e e iew was based on a syn hesis o in e na ional and egional
publica ions indexed in PubMed, Scopus, and eLib a y da abases be ween 2000 and 2024. The
sea ch included e ms “an epa um u e ine up u e,” “u e ine sca dehiscence,” “cesa ean sec ion
complica ions,” and “ma e nal ou comes.” S udies desc ibing pa hogenesis, diagnos ic
app oaches, clinical p esen a ion, and managemen s a egies we e analyzed. P io i y was gi en
o sys ema ic e iews, case se ies, and clinical guidelines om he Wo ld Heal h O ganiza ion
and p o essional obs e ic associa ions.
Resul s and Discussion. The main e iological ac o s iden i ied include sca dehiscence
due o inadequa e healing, myome ial hinning a he si e o p e ious incision, and abno mal
placen a ion (placen a acc e a spec um). Less common causes in ol e u e ine mal o ma ions,
auma, and excessi e u e ine dis ension in mul iple p egnancies o polyhyd amnios. Clinical
mani es a ions a e o en nonspeci ic—abdominal pain, e al dis ess, pe i oneal i i a ion, o
cessa ion o e al mo emen s. Imaging me hods such as ul asound and MRI play a c i ical ole
in ea ly diagnosis. Eme gency lapa o omy emains he co ne s one o managemen , wi h u e ine
epai o hys e ec omy depending on he ex en o up u e and he pa ien 's ep oduc i e plans.
Conclusions. An epa um u e ine up u e, hough a e, ca ies a high isk o ma e nal and
e al dea h. Ea ly ecogni ion, isk assessmen in women wi h u e ine sca s, and mul idisciplina y
managemen a e essen ial o imp o ing ou comes. De eloping s anda dized diagnos ic
