Abs ac . Global Ci izenship Educa ion (GCE) has become a c ucial
amewo k in 21s -cen u y pedagogy, emphasizing lea ne s’ awa eness o global
issues, in e cul u al unde s anding, and esponsibili y as membe s o a connec ed
wo ld. In he con ex o language educa ion, GCE encou ages s uden s o go beyond
linguis ic compe ence by os e ing empa hy, c i ical hinking, and global-
mindedness. This pape examines he in eg a ion o GCE p inciples in o English
language eaching, ocusing on class oom s a egies, eache oles, and challenges
in he Uzbek educa ional con ex . The indings sugges ha embedding global
ci izenship hemes in o language lessons enhances lea ne s’ mo i a ion, cul u al
sensi i i y, and communica i ecompe ence.

Global Ci izenship Educa ion (GCE), p omo ed by UNESCO (2015), aims o
empowe lea ne s wi h he alues, knowledge, and skills needed o unde s and
global challenges, espec cul u al di e si y, and con ibu e o sus ainable
de elopmen . Language eaching plays a cen al ole in his mission. As By d Cla k
and De in (2014) a gue, lea ning a o eign language is inhe en ly in e cul u al—i

igh s, and social jus ice. In Uzbekis an, whe e English has become an essen ial skill
o academic and p o essional success, inco po a ing global ci izenship hemes can
align language lea ning wi h na ional goals o in e na ional collabo a ion and
cul u al openness.
Me hods. This quali a i e s udy explo ed how English eache s in highe
educa ion in eg a e Global Ci izenship Educa ion p inciples in o hei class oom
p ac ices. Da a we e collec ed om semi-s uc u ed in e iews wi h en English
language ins uc o s a Tashken S a e Uni e si y o O ien al S udies and Sama kand
S a e Uni e si y o Fo eign Languages. Pa icipan s we e asked abou hei
unde s anding o GCE, eaching s a egies used, and pe cei ed challenges. The s udy
also e iewed class oom ma e ials, lesson plans, and na ional educa ional policy
documen s o iden i y how GCE is e lec ed in English cu icula. Thema ic analysis
was employed o ca ego ize esponses in o h ee main a eas: awa eness and
unde s anding o GCE, class oom implemen a ion, and ins i u ional challenges.
Resul s. Findings indica ed ha mos eache s ecognized he impo ance o
Global Ci izenship Educa ion bu a ied in hei abili y o apply i in p ac ice.
App oxima ely 70% o pa icipan s epo ed using global opics—such as cul u al
di e si y, gende equali y, and en i onmen al issues—in eading and discussion
ac i i ies. Howe e , hese e o s we e o en limi ed by a lack o o mal aining o
speci ic cu iculum guidance. Teache s who success ully implemen ed GCE
epo ed se e al bene i s. S uden s became mo e engaged in discussions, showed
inc eased cu iosi y abou o he cul u es, and demons a ed imp o ed c i ical
hinking and empa hy. In eg a ing au hen ic ma e ials, such as in e na ional news
a icles, TED Talks, and in e cul u al communica ion p ojec s, helped make lessons
mo e meaning ul. Howe e , eache s also highligh ed challenges, including ime
cons ain s, limi ed access o global esou ces, and he p essu e o ocus on exam-
o ien ed eaching a he han in e cul u al compe ence de elopmen .

Discussion. The esul s suppo p e ious esea ch emphasizing he ole o
language educa ion in p omo ing global ci izenship (By am, 2008; Dema & Moelle ,
2012). GCE in language class ooms os e s he de elopmen o lea ne s who no
only mas e linguis ic o ms bu also become e lec i e, esponsible, and ac i e
pa icipan s in a global communi y. In he Uzbek con ex , whe e educa ion is
inc easingly in e na ionalized, in eg a ing GCE aligns wi h he na ion’s educa ional
mode niza ion goals. As no ed by UNESCO (2015), GCE encou ages lea ne s o
“ac locally and hink globally.” English eache s can achie e his h ough
communica i e asks ha p omo e dialogue, cul u al compa ison, and collabo a i e
p ojec s add essing global hemes. None heless, sus ainable implemen a ion
equi es sys emic suppo . P o essional de elopmen p og ams, cul u ally inclusi e
cu icula, and accessible digi al esou ces a e necessa y o equip eache s wi h he
ools o embed GCE e ec i ely in o language eaching.
Conclusion. Global Ci izenship Educa ion en iches language lea ning by
connec ing linguis ic skills wi h global awa eness and social esponsibili y. In
Uzbekis an, in eg a ing GCE in o English educa ion can os e lea ne s who a e no
only p o icien communica o s bu also e hical, open-minded, and cul u ally
sensi i e indi iduals. To ealize his ision, policymake s and educa o s mus
collabo a e o design cu icula and eache aining p og ams ha b idge language
educa ion wi h global ci izenship ideals.
