Resea ch objec i e. The aim o he s udy was o in es iga e ce ain c ys allog aphic pa ame e s
o escin subs ance (pa icle shape, leng h, wid h, hei a ios, e c.).
Ma e ials and me hods. The escin subs ance used in he esea ch was manu ac u ed by KH
Heal h Indus y Co., L d. and con ained 97.5–102.0% escin. O his, 38.4% co esponded o α-escin
and 29.5% o β-escin. The subs ance had a speci ic cha ac e is ic odo and appea ed as a ine whi e
powde wi h a weigh loss on d ying o 2.3%.

o analy ical wo k was used in combina ion wi h a Canon A123 mic oscope came a. To p ope ly
assess he size and shape o he ac i e subs ance pa icles, pho omic og aphs we e aken a
magni ica ions anging om 26× o 900×. Measu emen s we e ca ied ou wi h an ocula mic ome e
and la e con e ed in o mic ons. S a is ical analysis o he ob ained esul s was pe o med using
gene ally accep ed c i e ia (Zay se , 1991) wi h a pe sonal compu e (MS Excel so wa e).

Resul s. The pho omic og aphs ob ained in he s udy con i med ha he escin subs ance is
mainly composed o c ys alli es. The mo phology o he pa icles is di e se, including od-like,
p isma ic, amo phous, and g anula o ms, which indica es hei poo ly dis inguishable c ys alline
s uc u e. The size o he agmen s a ied: bo h small ounded pa icles and la ge agglome a es wi h
indis inc con ou s we e obse ed.
When de e mining he pa icle size o he ac i e subs ance, i was ound ha he maximum
leng h anged om 22.63–32.51 μm, he minimum leng h om 7.25–13.82 μm, wi h an a e age
leng h o 14.94–23.17 μm. The maximum wid h o he pa icles was 4.72–8.54 μm, he minimum
wid h 1.51–5.18 μm, and he a e age wid h 3.12–6.86 μm. Fo sphe ical pa icles, he maximum and
minimum diame e s we e 14.60–33.35 μm and 1.65–7.26 μm, espec i ely, wi h an a e age diame e
o 10.93–19.22 μm.
Since he a io o a e age leng h o a e age wid h o he pa icles exceeded 3:1 (1:4.79; 1:3.10;
1:4.03), mos o he pa icles had an elonga ed shape and we e classi ied as anisodiame ic. Acco ding
o da a om he li e a u e, subs ances wi h such pa icle mo phology a e cha ac e ized by ine
dispe si y, posi i e comp essibili y, and poo lowabili y.
Conclusions. Based on he esul s o s udying he c ys allog aphic pa ame e s o escin
subs ance, i was es ablished ha he a io o a e age pa icle leng h o a e age wid h exceeded 3:1.
The e o e, he majo i y o he pa icles possess an elonga ed mo phology and belong o he g oup o
anisodiame ic-shaped ma e ials.
