o use in biocompa ible ma e ials in ended o d ug deli e y. The inco po a ion o chi osan enhances
biocompa ibili y and adhesi e p ope ies, while glu a aldehyde ensu es chemical c oss-linking and
inc eases he mechanical s eng h o he ob ained pa ches. Thus, he in es iga ion o polyme
composi ions based on gellan and aga modi ied wi h chi osan and glu a aldehyde is o in e es o
he de elopmen o new ma e ials wi h p olonged he apeu ic ac ion.
Pu pose o he Resea ch: To in es iga e he swelling beha io o polyme pa ches based on
gellan gum and aga -aga , modi ied wi h chi osan and glu a aldehyde.
Ma e ials and me hods: To ob ain ilm samples, wo na u al polysaccha ides — gellan gum
and aga -aga — we e used. Polyme solu ions we e p epa ed in dis illed wa e by hea ing un il
comple e dissolu ion o he componen s, ollowed by cooling and cas ing on a la su ace. Samples
o s anda d mass we e imme sed in dis illed wa e and, a p ede e mined ime in e als, we e weighed
a e emo al o su ace mois u e wi h il e pape . The swelling deg ee was calcula ed as he a io o
he mass inc ease o he sample o i s ini ial mass.
Resul s: Gellan-based samples (G1, G2) exhibi ed apid swelling du ing he i s 40 minu es
bu showed educed s abili y unde p olonged wa e exposu e. Aga -based samples (A3, A4), in
con as , demons a ed uni o m wa e abso p ion and high s abili y agains hyd a ion.
Conclusions: The ob ained esul s con i m ha he na u e o he ini ial polysaccha ide and he
deg ee o chemical modi ica ion signi ican ly in luence he swelling beha io and s abili y o polyme
pa ches. Fu he esea ch will ocus on inco po a ing medicinal ex ac s in o he pa ch s uc u e and
in es iga ing hei elease kine ics, which will allow assessing he po en ial o he de eloped sys ems
as ca ie s o con olled deli e y o biologically ac i e subs ances.
