a ense) is one o he plan s adi ionally used in olk medicine, known o i s medicinal p ope ies
due, among o he hings, o he p esence o la onoids.
Pu pose and objec i es
The pu pose o his s udy is o conduc a phy ochemical analysis o he la onoids con ained in
ho se ails using mode n ex ac ion me hods, ch oma og aphic and spec oscopic analysis o
de e mine he composi ion and concen a ion o la onoids. The pape conside s he main ypes o
la onoids, such as equise h in, que ce in, kaemp e ol, apigenin and hei possible ole in biological
p ocesses ela ed o he e ec on an ioxidan ac i i y and s eng hening o ascula walls.
To p elimina ily de e mine he p esence o la onoids, quali a i e eac ions we e pe o med
wi h e ic (III) chlo ide, a 10% alcoholic alkali solu ion, a 2% aqueous aluminum chlo ide solu ion,
a basic lead ace a e solu ion, and a B ian cyanidin eac ion. The posi i e esul o he eac ions
sugges ed he p esence o la onoids in he s udied aw ma e ials.

Thin-laye ch oma og aphy (THC) me hods we e used o iden i y and quan i y la onoids. Two main
spo s should be isible on he ch oma og am: wi h R. abou 0.57 and Ri abou 0.5, ha ing b igh blue
luo escence in UV ligh a 254 nm o blue wi h iole luo escence a 360 nm, as well as wi h Ri
abou 0.4, ha ing blue wi h u quoise luo escence in UV ligh a 254 nm o blue in UV ligh a 360
nm ( la one-5-glycosides). O he uncha ac e is ic spo s a e allowed. The ch oma og am is sp ayed
wi h a 2% solu ion o aluminum chlo ide in 95% alcohol, placed in a d ying cabine o 1-2 minu es
a 100-105 ° C. A e he appea ance o he spo s Rj abou 0.57 and 0.5 do no change hei colo , he
spo wi h R, abou 0.4 u ns yellow in isible and UV ligh .
Resul : The da a ob ained indica e he p esence o a signi ican amoun o la onoids in
ho se ail ex ac s, among which equise in and que ce in demons a e he highes concen a ion and
biological ac i i y. Acco ding o esea ch, he con en o la onoids in ho se ails (Equise um a ense)
can ange om 0.1% o 0.5% o he o al weigh o he plan in d y o m. The ch oma og am showed
isible spo s in UV ligh a 254 nm and 360 nm, and quali a i e eac ions we e pe o med o iden i y
he p esence o la anoids.
Conclusions: These esul s highligh he p ospec s o using ho se ail as a sou ce o la onoids
o he de elopmen o phy o he apeu ic agen s aimed a imp o ing he condi ion o he
ca dio ascula sys em and educing in lamma ion.
