Rele ance: Elaeagnus angus i olia, also known as jida, is a species o oleas e ound in
Uzbekis an. I s lea es, seeds, and lowe s, along wi h i s ui s, con ain a complex o biologically
ac i e subs ances.
The aluable medicinal and p ophylac ic p ope ies o he black sea buck ho n ha e long been
known in olk medicine in many coun ies o Asia and he Caucasus. The ui s o local species a e
used o ea gas oin es inal diseases due o hei as ingen , an i-in lamma o y, and en eloping
p ope ies. They a e also used as an expec o an ( o b onchi is), diu e ic ( o asci es and edema),
an ihelmin hic, and i amin supplemen . An in usion o he ui s exhibi s hypo ensi e and mild
analgesic e ec s. In Cen al Asia, baby ood is p epa ed om pe ica p powde . Residen s o Sakhalin
use decoc ions and in usions om d ied oleas e ui s (Elaeagnus mul i lo a Thunb.) as a onic and
o gas oin es inal ailmen s.
Objec i es: Mo phological and ana omical analysis o Elaeagnus angus i olia:

wa y ma gins, nea ly glab ous abo e, and sil e y benea h wi h b own do s om pel a e hai s. The
pe ian h lacks a nec a y disc, wi h nec a ies in he o m o glandula ube cles al e na ing wi h
s amens. Flowe ing occu s in au umn. Young shoo s a e b ownish om b ownish pel a e hai s.
Usually a ho ny sh ub up o 3 m. Flowe s up o 10 mm long and 5-10 mm in diame e , whi e, on
pedicels 15-30 mm long. F ui s a e juicy, ellipsoidal, 10-15 mm long, ed. Lea es a e usually g een
on op. O en o ms ho ns. Flowe s on sho pedicels. Spines a e absen . Pe ian h whi e ( u ns yellow
when ading), 5-6 mm long, lobes a e na owly lanceola e 2.5 imes sho e han ube, wi h 1
longi udinal ein, s ylodium sligh ly longe han pe ian h. F ui s a e small (19.78 x 13.75 mm), juicy,
ed, oblong-cylind ical. The inne su ace o he calyx is yellow o o ange. The lea blade is e y so
o he ouch and pubescen on bo h sides. The ui s a e d y, he mesoca p is mealy. The ui s a e
usually 10-15 mm in diame e , b oadly ellipsoidal. The lea es on lowe ing and ui ing b anches a e
na owly ellip ic o lanceola e, o en g een abo e, wi h sca e ed s ella e hai s; pel a e hai s a e o en
absen . The pe ian h is unnel-shaped, 5-6 mm long; he lobes a e b oadly lanceola e o subo a e,
sligh ly sho e han he ube, wi h 3 longi udinal eins; he s ylodium is nea ly as long as he pe ian h;
he disk is cylind ical.
Ana omical analysis o he na ow-lea ed oleas e : A he oo s, in he abso p ion zone, he e
is p ima y xylem o he dia ch ype. The cells o he nodule a e s uc u ally indis inguishable om
he cells o he oo co ex; his issue con ains nume ous highly expanded cells ha ha bo ni ogen-
ixing mic oo ganisms. Ma u e pollen g ains a y in shape and size ( om 0.1 o 0.15 µm). All a e
ounded, wi h a olded ec um su ace, o ming p o usions a ound h ee ape u es, gi ing he pollen
g ain a seemingly ounded- iangula shape. In e speci ic di e ences we e ound in he c oss-
sec ional shape and ascula elemen s o he pe ioles, he epide mis on he su ace o he lea blades,
and he p esence o pa icula ly hickened, pigmen ed, la ge, co ymbose (pel a e) hai s. The isola e al
lea s uc u e o he sea buck ho n (Oleas e acan hus) has subme ged s oma a and highly con olu ed
cells on bo h he unde side and uppe su ace o he lea .
