Me hods: A p e-pos s udy design was implen ed a Bahçelie le Medicana Hospi al
du ing he peak o he Co id-19 pandemic, om Feb ua y 11, 2021, o Ma ch 5, 2021. The
s udy popula ion consis ed o 11 indi iduals diagnosed wi h co ona y a e y disease and 4
heal hca e p o essionals wi hou any diagnosed medical condi ions. Among he 11
pa ien s, 10 unde wen co ona y angiog aphy, 1 unde wen co ona y s en ing, and 1
unde wen pe iphe al angiog aphy. The angiog aphy sui e was equipped wi h he Ini us-
V Fa -UVC sys em, and all p ocedu es we e conduc ed unde his sys em. Skin e y hema,
ocula condi ion, and in ec ion s a us we e assessed p io o and immedia ely ollowing
exposu e, wi h ollow-up e alua ions conduc ed 24 hou s and 1 week la e . Resul s: The
a e age age o pa ien s was 48 yea s, wi h a s anda d de ia ion o 7.35 yea s. Con e sely,
he a e age age o heal hca e pe sonnel was eco ded a 36.75 yea s, wi h a s anda d
de ia ion o 9.53 yea s. No ably, one pa ien es ed posi i e o Co id-19 bo h p io o and
a e he p ocedu e. In con as , no heal hca e pe sonnel we e ound o be posi i e o
Co id-19 in ec ion a any poin , ei he be o e o a e he p ocedu es we e conduc ed. The
ex ile clo hing u ilized in he Ini us-V sys em is cha ac e ized by an Ul a iole P o ec ion
Fac o (UPF) ha e ec i ely il e s ou 98% o Fa -UVC adia ion, pe mi ing only 2% o
pene a e, he eby signi ican ly educing he isk o UVC exposu e. Mo eo e , no
disce nible changes o he skin o eyes o any pa icipan s we e a ibu able o exposu e
o 222nm UVC du ing o ollowing he p ocedu es. Conclusion: The Fa -UVC sys em

Co ona i us disease 2019 (COVID-19) was i s
iden i ied in Decembe 2019 and decla ed a pandemic
on Ma ch 11, 2020. Despi e ex ensi e e o s o con ain
he disease, COVID-19 has esul ed in 753 million
con i med cases and o e 6.8 million dea hs as o
Janua y 30, 2023, (1). The apid inc ease in cases,
leading o se e e pulmona y and ex apulmona y
mani es a ions, b inging some heal hca e sys ems o
he b ink o collapse (2-7). COVID-19 is belie ed o be
ansmi ed h ough bo h di ec con ac and ai bo ne
ou es (8). Thus, he implemen a ion o inno a i e
echnologies is c i ical o p e en ing he sp ead o he
disease in hospi als and public a eas. This necessi y is
unde sco ed by he i us's abili y o emain iable in
ae osols o up o h ee hou s and he po en ial o
ansmission om asymp oma ic ca ie s (2).

Ul a iole ge micidal i adia ion (UVGI) is de ined as
he use o ul a iole (UV) ligh in he ge micidal ange
(wa eleng hs: 200–320 nm) o he disin ec ion o ai
and su aces I is a p o en me hod cu en ly employed
in high- isk se ings (10), (11-13). Ul a iole -C (UVC)
adia ion is he mos e ec i e and commonly used
ge micidal wa eleng h ange o he ul a iole
spec um (11). UVC ligh induces he o ma ion o
pho op oduc s, such as py imidine dime s, which
cause s uc u al dis o ions in DNA and dis up
RNA/DNA ansc ip ion and eplica ion p ocesses,
e ec i ely killing a ious mic oo ganisms in di e en
se ings (12-15). In ac , UVGI was e ec i ely used in
ube culosis wa ds in he pas bu has esu aced as a
popula choice du ing Co id-19 pandemic (16, 17). A
low-p essu e me cu y- apo a c lamp emi ing abou
254 nm is he mos o en u ilized o m o UV ligh o
an imic obial pu poses; howe e , xenon lamp
echnology has also been used, which p o ides a b oad
UV spec um. (3-5) These can be used o ai
disin ec ion ei he as duc i adia ion o uppe oom
UVGI (UV ligh p ojec ion in a oom abo e people’s
heads). These UV ligh s canno be used in he p esence
o li ing o ganisms due o he isk o se ious skin and
eye p oblems (6, 7, 9, 10).
Fa -UVC (207 o 222 nm) ep esen s an ad anced o m
o UVC ha is as e ec i e a elimina ing
mic oo ganisms as con en ional ge micidal UV ligh
(18). Recen s udies ha e demons a ed ha Fa -UVC
exposu e does no cause he skin and eye p oblems
associa ed wi h con en ional UVC exposu e (18-21).
Fa -UVC ligh can pene a e only a ew mic ome e s,
which is su icien o inac i a e i uses and bac e ia in
biological ma e ials as well as in he s a um co neum
o he skin. I does no pene a e he s a um co neum
o he ocula ea laye , hus no eaching li ing human
cells in he skin o eyes. Thus, Fa -UVC p o ides he
same ge micidal e icacy as con en ional UVC bu
wi hou he associa ed heal h haza ds (18-21). Fa -UVC
ligh (207 o 222 nm) is p oduced by low-cos excime
lamps and has he po en ial o be used in c owded
public loca ions (18, 22-24). Low-dose- a e Fa -UVC
can be an e ec i e me hod o p e en ing ae osolized
i us ansmission in public a eas (23).

Objec i es
To e alua e he e ec s o he Ini us-V Fa -UVC sys em
on he skin and eyes o indi iduals wea ing sa e y
goggles and UVC-p o ec i e ponchos o o e alls, as
well as he ansmission o in ec ion o heal hca e
wo ke s in hospi al se ings.
Me hods
The s udy is a p e-pos design. The s udy was
conduc ed in a single cen e a Bahçelie le Medicana
Hospi al du ing peak Co id-19 pandemic om
11.02.2021 o 05.03.2021. E hical commi ee
pe missions we e ecei ed and all pa ien s we e
insu ed o ials. 11 indi iduals wi h co ona y a e y
disease and 4 heal hca e wo ke s wi h no diagnosed
condi ion olun ee ed o pa icipa e in he s udy.
Pa icipan s signed an in o med consen o m. The
pa icipan s' ages ange om 25 o 75. Males made up
11 (73%) o he o al pa icipan s, while emales made

Ini us-V Sys em Desc ip ion and 222nm UVC ligh
sou ce.
Ini us-V sys em was de eloped collabo a i ely by
InnowayRG Inc and Ves el Home appliances Inc. A
pa en applica ion has been made o TURKPATENT in
he pa ne ship o hese wo companies
(TR2020/07546). This app oach allows o he ins an
deploymen o Fa -UVC echnology wi hou any
egula o y au ho i y con lic o es ic ion. The 222nm
ligh sou ce o Ini us-V was p oduced by Ves el Inc.
(Manisa, Tu key) and InnowayRG Inc. (Is anbul, Tu key)
ea u es a k yp on-chlo ide (K -Cl) excime lamp and
an op ical il e wi h a maximum ou pu wa eleng h o
222nm and emission wa eleng hs anging om 200 o
230nm.
The uni consis s o a lamp, ai cooling an, mi o s and
a specialized band-pass il e . The a ached il e
e ec i ely elimina es almos all wa eleng hs ou side
he dominan 222nm emission. The in ensi y o 222nm
ligh was measu ed wi h an S-172 / UIT250

The ansmi ance o he 222 nm wa eleng h h ough
he ex ile clo hing (o e alls) used in he Ini us-V
sys em was measu ed using a Me le Toledo UV7
spec opho ome e . The esul s showed an a e age
ansmi ance o 1.5%. Addi ionally, he ex ile clo hing
used in he Ini us-V sys em possesses an Ul a iole
P o ec ion Fac o (UPF) o 50+, which quan i ies he
ab ic's abili y o block UV adia ion, including bo h
UVB and UVA ays. A UPF 50 ab ic il e s ou 98% o
UV adia ion, allowing only 2% (1/50 h) o pass
h ough, hus signi ican ly minimizing he isk o UV
exposu e (Figu e 2).

Pa ien s we e olde (48 ± 7.35) han heal hca e
pe sonnel (36.75 ± 9.53) yea s. One pa ien was COVID-
19 posi i e bo h p e- and pos -p ocedu e. Heal hca e
pe sonnel we e no posi i e o Co id-19 in ec ion
nei he be o e no a e he su ge y. The a e age o
o al 222nm UVC exposu e ime was much sho e
(23.2 ± 10 minu es) o pa ien s han i was o
heal hca e wo ke s (277.5 ± 18.93 minu es). The e
we e no obse ed skin o eye changes due o 222nm
UVC exposu e in any pa icipan s. Follow-up ques ions
conce ning skin and ocula condi ions we e no mal 24
hou s and 1 week a e he p ocedu e.
Discussion
A se ious ise in Heal h Ca e Associa ed In ec ions
(HCAI) has d ama ically inc eased heal hca e cos s. In
2000, HCAIs caused 5,000 dea hs in he Uni ed
Kingdom (UK) alone, causing a 1% inc ease in he o al
UK Na ional Hospi al budge (27). The US Cen e s o
Disease Con ol and P e en ion es ima ed he o al
cos s in No h Ame ica o be in excess o $6 billion
($US) o ea ing HCAIs and hei associa ed
complica ions (28). I is es ima ed ha app oxima ely
2.4 billion € a e spen annually o ea men o HCAIs
in Ge many (29).
In asi e angiog aphy sui p ocedu es a e also mo al
and cos ly. Pacemake implan a ions a e equen ly
pe o med pe manen endoca dial leads implan a ion
in ec ion a e is be ween 1% and 2%, bu he e a e
li e a u es epo ing 0.13% o 12.6% a es. Implan able
an i a hy hmic sys em numbe s a e inc easing, and
he Na ional Hospi al Discha ge Su ey e ealed ha
be ween 1996 and 2003, he a es o hospi aliza ion
o in ec ions o implan able an ia hy hmic sys ems
inc eased as e han he a es o sys em implan a ions
(30).
TAVI is now ou inely pe o med in angiog aphy sui s
and TAVI ela ed in ec i e endoca di is is mo al and
seen in 3.25% o cases. The mos common
complica ion is hea ailu e wi h a cumula i e
incidence o 37.1%. En e ococci a e he mos common
causa i e o ganism isola ed om 25.9% o cases
ollowed by S aphylococcus au eus in 16.1% o cases.

(32). Fa -UVC echnology has he po en ial o become

pa ien s and p ocedu es a e p og essi ely inc easing in
ca diology.
T ansmission o Fa -UVC ligh a 200 nm om he
co nea o he lens is p edic ed o be essen ially ze o. I
has been obse ed ha 207 nm UV ligh e ec i ely kills
MRSA, wi hou causing signi ican damage o human
cells, unlike con en ional ge micidal UV lamps (18-21).
Fu he mo e, esea ch in ol ing Xpa knockou mice
and wild- ype mice subjec ed o epe i i e 222 nm UVC
i adia ion, ollowing a umo -inducing p o ocol ha
p oduces umo s wi h b oad-band UVB, showed no
e idence o umo induc ion (22).
Con a y o signi ican side e ec s obse ed wi h
adi ional ge micidal UV lamps, Resea ch using a
h ee-dimensional human skin model has shown ha
exposu e o 207 nm UV ligh esul s in i ually no
mu agenic UV-associa ed DNA lesions (18, 24). This
sugges s ha Fa -UVC s e iliza ion can be sa ely
conduc ed in en i onmen s wi h human p esence.
In a p e ious s udy, he e ec s o skin exposu e o 222
nm UV adia ion we e e alua ed using a de ice
designed o s e ilize equipmen (S e il ay™ Heal h
En i onmen Inno a ions, Do e , New Hampshi e,
USA). The s udy assessed he induc ion o skin
e y hema and cyclobu ane py imidine dime s (CPD) in
skin biopsies. Findings indica ed ha he UVC-emi ing
S e il ay no only induced e y hema bu also caused
DNA damage in he o m o CPDs, which a e associa ed
wi h skin cance . These e ec s we e obse ed a
dosage le els below he h eshold o bac e ios a ic o
bac e icidal e ec s. This sugges s ha equen ,
se e al- imes-daily use o S e il ay i adia ion is
unlikely o be ole a ed as a non-chemical an isep ic o
human skin (33).

back in o he oom. The ai -sample s we e s a ioned
om 2 o 4.8 m away om he pa ien s. This a icle

om a pa ien . The Ini us-V sys em, capable o
inac i a ing ai bo ne i uses, can add ess his issue

cu en echnique, UVC sys ems ope a ing a
wa eleng hs o 200-222 nm exhibi high eliabili y,
minimal heal h isks, ease o ins alla ion, and e ec i e
pe o mance wi hou eliance on consumables. By
in eg a ing his sys em wi h clo hes and co e s made
o UVC-p oo ab ic as u ilized in Ini us-V, we add ess
conce ns abou long- e m damage and enable sa e,
immedia e ope a ion unde UVC ligh . Ou p oposed
sys em includes UVC-p o ec ed wea able ab ics and
clo hing, pa ien and ope a ing oom co e s, UVC-
p oo glasses, and labo a o y ligh ing wi hin he 200-
222 nm ange.
Limi a ions
In ou s udy we did no wan o pe o m skin biopsy
examina ion p e and pos exposu e in s a o pa ien s
due o in asi e na u e o p ocedu e bu limi ed
assessmen by in ec ious disease, de ma ology and
oph halmology examina ions. Ou s udy was a
p elimina y sa e y s udy and en olled only angiog aphy
and s en pa ien s ins ead o highe isk in asi e
ca diological p ocedu es. P e and pos p ocedu e
mic obiologic cul u e examina ions we e no
pe o med.

IRB in o ma ion: The p esen s udy was app o ed by
