Rele ance: Handelia ichophylla is a pe ennial he baceous plan o he As e aceae amily,
widesp ead in Cen al Asia. The plan con ains a ich complex o biologically ac i e subs ances:
essen ial oils, sesqui e pene lac ones, la onoids, polysaccha ides, annins, amino acids, choline,
ca o enoids, asco bic acid, o ganic acids, and suga s. S udying he ca bohyd a e complex o his

S udy Objec i e: Isola ion and cha ac e iza ion o he ca bohyd a e complex (alcohol-soluble
suga s, wa e -soluble polysaccha ides, pec in subs ances, and hemicelluloses) om he lowe s,
lea es, and s ems o H. ichophylla.
Ma e ials and Me hods: The s udy subjec was ai -d ied, g ound aw ma e ials ( lowe s,
lea es, and s ems) o H. ichophylla.

a y acids. 2. Ex ac ion was pe o med wi h boiling 82% e hanol; alcohol-soluble suga s (ASS),
iden i ied by biochemical analysis as uc ose and suc ose, we e isola ed. 3. Wa e -soluble
polysaccha ides (WSPS), pec in subs ances (PS), and hemicelluloses (HMC) we e isola ed om he
esidue. 4. Monosaccha ide composi ion was de e mined by HPLC (Table 1).
