Rele ance. The use o ale ian has a long his o y in olk medicine. I was men ioned in w i en

ecommended by Galen o insomnia, and in he 16 h cen u y, hey we e used o ea ne ousness,
palpi a ions, and headaches. Beginning in he mid-20 h cen u y, ale ian inc u e began o be used
o s ess ul si ua ions.
Pu pose o he s udy. The pu pose o ou esea ch is s udy o he medical use o he main aw
ma e ials o ale ian in medicinal p ac ice, namely o he elie o pain in he hea and he ea men

Ma e ials and Me hods. Fo he s udy, we used he ollowing p ima y sou ces: A icenna's
ex book "The Canon o Medicine," me hodological manuals and a ex book on he bal medicine, an
a las o medicinal plan s o Uzbekis an, a ex book on clinical pha macology, and a icles on he
ana omical and mo phological s uc u e o ale ian, i s dis ibu ion, and he collec ion o medicinal
plan ma e ials. Addi ional in o ma ion was ob ained om in e ne esou ces, online encyclopedias,
and elec onic lib a ies.
Resul s. Vale ian o icinalis, a pe ennial he baceous plan , eaches a heigh o 1-1.5 me e s. I
g ows in he Caucasus, Eu ope, he Fa Eas , and Sibe ia, and is also cul i a ed in Cen al Asia.
Vale ian's medicinal aw ma e ial is he oo s and hizomes, ha es ed in ea ly sp ing (when he lea es
