p esence o la onoids, phenolic compounds, e penoids, alkaloids and saponins in he plan , which

PURPOSE: To e iew he phy ochemical p ope ies o T. amosissima and i s biological
ac i i y in o de o assess he p ospec s o i s use in pha macy and medicine.
Ma e ials and Me hods: The e iew is based on he analysis o scien i ic publica ions om
PubMed, Scopus, Web o Science and Google Schola . Me hods o isola ion and iden i ica ion o
ac i e compounds ( hin-laye ch oma og aphy (TLC), high-pe o mance liquid ch oma og aphy
(HPLC), gas ch oma og aphy-mass spec ome y (GC-MS)) as well as s udies o an ioxidan ,
an imic obial, an i-in lamma o y and cy o oxic p ope ies o T. amosissima a e e iewed.
Resul s: Phy ochemical analysis o T. amosissima e ealed he con en o la onoids (up o
3.5% o d y weigh ), phenolic compounds (up o 2.8%), and saponins (1.2%). The an ioxidan ac i i y
o he e hanolic ex ac is 78.5% by DPPH es , which is compa able o ha o asco bic acid.
An imic obial ac i i y was con i med agains S aphylococcus au eus (18 mm g ow h
supp ession zone), Esche ichia coli (15 mm zone), Pseudomonas ae uginosa (12 mm zone) and
Candida albicans (10 mm zone). Phenolic compounds (gallic acid, que ce in) and la onoids
(kaemp e ol, u in) ha e an e ec by damaging he memb anes o pa hogens and inhibi ing hei
enzymes.
An i-in lamma o y e ec is associa ed wi h inhibi ion o he p oduc ion o p o-in lamma o y
cy okines (IL-6, TNF-α) by 35-40%. S udies ha e shown ha T. amosissima ex ac s educe malonic
dialdehyde (MDA) le els by 25%, indica ing i s an ioxidan po en ial. The ac i e compounds o he
plan we e also ound o inhibi he ac i i y o COX-2 and 5-LOX enzymes, which con i ms i s an i-
in lamma o y e ec s. In addi ion, he ex ac s con ibu e o he s abiliza ion o lysosomal memb anes,
educing he sec e ion o in lamma o y media o s.
In i o cy o oxic s udies ha e shown ha T. amosissima ex ac educes he iabili y o HeLa
cell line by 45% a a concen a ion o 100 µg/mL, and induces apop osis o A549 (lung cance ) cell
line by 50% a a concen a ion o 200 µg/mL. In s udies on a ca cinoma model in mice, a 30%
educ ion in umo olume was obse ed when he ex ac was o ally adminis e ed a a dose o 50
mg/kg o 14 days. Fu he in i o s udies a e needed o de e mine i s he apeu ic po en ial in he
ea men o cance .
Conclusions: Tama ix amosissima is a p omising sou ce o biologically ac i e compounds.
