5. Discussion and Analysis
a) Concep ual Founda ion o Medical-Musicology Theo y (MMT)
Medical-Musicology Theo y (MMT) es ablishes music and medicine as in insically linked domains, uni ied by sha ed
p inciples o hy hm, esonance, and epai . The human body is concep ualized as a bio-acous ic sys em, while music is a

Koen’s amewo k o medical e hnomusicology, which in eg a es music, medicine, and cul u e in o a uni ied healing

b) Theo e ical Con ibu ions
MMT con ibu es o heo y h ough ou key dimensions:
i) On ological Claim: The body ope a es as a dynamic bio-acous ic en i y, and music unc ions as an o ganized
ex e nal sound sys em.
ii) Epis emological B idge: MMT syn hesizes biomedical, indigenous, and musical knowledge sys ems ia

iii) Me hodological Inno a ion: I p oposes mapping sonic-biological in e ac ions o clinical diagnos ics and
he apy [17].
i ) Decolonial Implica ion: MMT challenges Ca esian dualism and p omo es cogni i e jus ice h ough sonic

c) E idence-Based Links Be ween Music and Medicine
i) His o ical Con ex
Ancien ci iliza ions (e.g., Egyp , G eece, India) used music o healing. Apollo, he G eek god o music and
medicine, symbolizes his con e gence. Indigenous p ac ices, such as shamanic d umming, e lec ea ly

ii) Neu ophysiological and Psychological Mechanisms
Music he apy ac i a es b ain egions in ol ed in emo ion, memo y, and mo o con ol. I modula es

iii) Psychoimmunological Pa hways
Music in luences immune ma ke s such as immunoglobulin A and cy okines. I educes co isol and inc eases
se o onin and oxy ocin, he eby enhancing immune esilience [22,23].
i ) Biomechanical En ainmen

d) Clinical Applica ions
Music he apy is applied in hospi als, ehabili a ion cen e s, and pallia i e ca e. Techniques include guided image y,

i ) C oss-cul u al healing p ac ices
) Dosage modeling (du a ion, in ensi y, o mula ion)
i) Biome ic co ela ions (e.g., HRV, EEG, co isol)
ii) Concep ualizing disease as dissonance and he apy as consonance
iii) Viewing clinical encoun e s as musical ensembles [16,19,26]

g) Epis emic Rele ance
MMT challenges educ ionis pa adigms by alida ing s uc u ed sound as a heal h a iable. I in eg a es biome ic da a
wi h pa ien na a i es, p omo ing a plu alis ic epis emology [18].
h) Scope o MMT
MMT applies o:
i) Condi ions: Dep ession, anxie y, demen ia, s oke, Pa kinson’s, au ism
ii) Popula ions: Newbo ns o elde ly
iii) Se ings: Hospi als, schools, homes, communi ies [19,21]
i) Limi a ions and Delinea ions
MMT is a complemen a y modali y, no a eplacemen o con en ional medicine. I equi es empi ical alida ion and
