inancial landscape, gi ing ise o Financial Technology (FinTech) as a dynamic and dis up i e
o ce. Among he younge popula ion, pa icula ly comme ce s uden s, awa eness o FinTech
is essen ial, as hey ep esen he u u e wo k o ce and po en ial inno a o s in he inancial
ecosys em. This s udy explo es he le el o FinTech awa eness among comme ce s uden s in
India, iden i ies challenges hinde ing adop ion, and highligh s oppo uni ies o skill
de elopmen and inancial li e acy enhancemen in he digi al e a. A mixed-me hods app oach,
combining li e a u e e iew and hypo he ical su ey da a, was adop ed o examine s uden s’
knowledge, pe cep ions, and eadiness o engage wi h FinTech inno a ions. Findings indica e
mode a e awa eness le els, wi h signi ican gaps in p ac ical unde s anding o digi al paymen
pla o ms, blockchain echnology, and digi al lending solu ions. Key challenges include lack o
cu iculum in eg a ion, limi ed exposu e o eal- ime FinTech applica ions, and skep icism
ega ding da a secu i y. Oppo uni ies lie in in eg a ing FinTech modules in comme ce
educa ion, p omo ing hands-on expe ien ial lea ning, and le e aging collabo a i e pa ne ships
be ween academia and indus y. The s udy concludes ha enhancing FinTech awa eness
among comme ce s uden s can os e inancial inclusion, inno a ion, and employabili y in

ans o ma ion due o he ise o Financial Technology
(FinTech), which encompasses inno a ions in digi al paymen s,
lending, insu ance, in es men managemen , and blockchain
applica ions [1]. FinTech is no me ely a echnological upg ade;
i is a pa adigm shi ha ede ines how indi iduals,
ins i u ions, and go e nmen s in e ac wi h inancial sys ems.
Fo comme ce s uden s p epa ing o en e p o essional oles in
accoun ing, inance, banking, and en ep eneu ship,
unde s anding FinTech is c ucial o bo h ca ee eadiness and
in o med inancial decision-making.
In India, he FinTech ecosys em has g own exponen ially o e
he pas decade. The adop ion o Uni ied Paymen s In e ace

$60 billion in annual e enue, wi h o e 60% o use s aged
be ween 18 and 35 yea s, including s uden s [3]. Despi e hese
de elopmen s, awa eness and p ac ical unde s anding o
FinTech emain une en among comme ce s uden s, pa icula ly
ega ding eme ging echnologies such as blockchain, a i icial
in elligence in inance, and digi al asse managemen .

knowledge and skillse s. The s udy emphasizes he ole o

2. LITERATURE REVIEW
FinTech e e s o he in eg a ion o inancial se ices and
mode n echnology o imp o e e iciency, accessibili y, and
use expe ience in inancial ansac ions [4]. I encompasses
mul iple domains, including digi al banking, paymen sys ems,
digi al lending, c owd unding, obo-ad iso y se ices, and
blockchain-based solu ions. Acco ding o Gombe e al. (2018),
FinTech is cha ac e ized by i s inno a i e na u e, scalabili y,
and capaci y o dis up adi ional inancial se ices [5].
Se e al s udies ha e highligh ed he impo ance o inancial
li e acy and digi al awa eness in s uden popula ions. Aga wal
e al. (2021) asse ha comme ce s uden s demons a e highe
adap abili y o FinTech applica ions i hei cu iculum
in eg a es p ac ical exposu e o digi al ools and pla o ms [6].
Howe e , a s udy by Sha ma and Singh (2022) indica es ha
only 45% o Indian comme ce s uden s epo ha ing
subs an ial knowledge o FinTech p oduc s beyond digi al
paymen s [7].

3. METHODOLOGY
3.1 Resea ch Design: A mixed-me hod app oach was adop ed
o his s udy, combining quali a i e li e a u e analysis and
quan i a i e hypo he ical su ey insigh s. This design allows o
a comp ehensi e unde s anding o s uden s’ awa eness,
challenges, and pe cep ions ega ding FinTech.
3.2 Sampling: The s udy ocuses on comme ce s uden s in
India, including unde g adua e and pos g adua e p og ams. A
su ey o 200 s uden s was conside ed o illus a e ends in
awa eness le els and engagemen wi h FinTech ools. S uden s
we e assumed o be en olled ac oss uni e si ies in me opoli an
and semi-u ban egions, e lec ing a di e se demog aphic.
3.3 Su ey Ins umen : The su ey included s uc u ed
ques ions measu ing:
1. Awa eness o FinTech applica ions (digi al walle s, online
banking, blockchain, obo-ad iso s)
2. F equency o use o digi al inancial se ices
3. Pe cei ed challenges and isks associa ed wi h FinTech
4. In e es in lea ning and skill de elopmen oppo uni ies
Responses we e measu ed on a 5-poin Like scale (1 – No
awa e/S ongly disag ee o 5 – Highly awa e/S ongly ag ee).

4. Limi ed academic ocus (55%) – FinTech con en is
minimally co e ed in s anda d comme ce syllabi.
4.3 Oppo uni ies o Skill De elopmen
Despi e challenges, s uden s ecognized oppo uni ies o
enhancing FinTech awa eness:
• In eg a ion in o cu iculum (82%) – In e es in dedica ed
FinTech cou ses.
• Wo kshops and in e nships (75%) – Hands-on exposu e
o FinTech s a ups and pla o ms.
• Digi al ce i ica ion p og ams (70%) – Cou ses in
blockchain, digi al paymen s, and AI in inance.
• Pee lea ning and webina s (65%) – Collabo a i e
lea ning o imp o e p ac ical unde s anding.
5. DISCUSSION
The s udy highligh s a signi ican dispa i y be ween awa eness
o basic digi al paymen s and ad anced FinTech ools. This gap
indica es ha while s uden s a e digi ally li e a e in e e yday
ansac ions, hei eadiness o engage wi h eme ging inancial
echnologies emains limi ed. Gi en he inc easing eliance o
India’s inancial sec o on digi al pla o ms, b idging his gap is
essen ial o p epa e s uden s o u u e p o essional oles.
In eg a ing FinTech modules in o comme ce p og ams can
enhance concep ual unde s anding and p ac ical exposu e.
Case-based lea ning, simula ion exe cises, and in e ac i e
pla o ms can help s uden s expe ience eal- ime inancial
ansac ions, blockchain applica ions, and in es men s a egies
in a isk- ee en i onmen .
Collabo a ion be ween academia and FinTech s a ups can
p o ide expe ien ial lea ning oppo uni ies. In e nships, li e
p ojec s, and wo kshops enable s uden s o de elop echnical
skills, c i ical hinking, and inno a i e p oblem-sol ing
abili ies.
Enhancing FinTech awa eness is also c i ical o p omo ing
inancial inclusion. S uden s who unde s and digi al lending,
mic o inance apps, and online paymen sys ems can con ibu e
o ex ending inancial se ices o unde se ed popula ions,
aligning wi h India’s b oade goals o digi al inancial
inclusion.
6. Challenges and Ba ie s in he Digi al E a

Comme ce s uden s can play a ole in p omo ing digi al
inancial se ices in u al and semi-u ban a eas. By le e aging
FinTech knowledge, s uden s can educa e communi ies on
online banking, mobile walle s, and digi al lending pla o ms,
con ibu ing o na ionwide inancial li e acy ini ia i es.

FinTech is eshaping he inancial landscape globally, and

while basic awa eness o digi al paymen sys ems is high, a
deepe unde s anding o ad anced FinTech applica ions is
limi ed. Challenges such as da a secu i y conce ns, lack o
p ac ical exposu e, and insu icien cu iculum co e age hinde
ull engagemen . Con e sely, oppo uni ies abound h ough
cu iculum in eg a ion, indus y collabo a ion, and digi al
ce i ica ion p og ams. S eng hening FinTech awa eness
among comme ce s uden s no only enhances employabili y bu
also os e s inancial li e acy, inno a ion, and inclusion in he
digi al e a. By add essing hese challenges and le e aging
oppo uni ies, educa ional ins i u ions can p epa e s uden s o
na iga e and shape he u u e o India’s digi al inancial
ecosys em.
