Music educa ion plays a c ucial ole in ele a ing young people’s hinking and aes he ic pe cep ion,

philosophe s—helps os e pa io ism and espec o cul u al he i age. P ominen Uzbek musicians
and compose s such as K. Jabbo o , J. Sul ono , F. Sodiqo , T. Jalilo , N. Hasano , G‘. Toshma o ,
Yu. Rajabiy, and M. Mu azoye ha e made aluable con ibu ions o he en ichmen o he Uzbek

His o ical Founda ions o Uzbek Musical He i age
The musical cul u e o he peoples o Cen al Asia has ancien oo s and is conside ed one o he
ea lies o ms o a is ic exp ession. As ea ly as he 8 h–9 h cen u ies, schola s such as Yunus al-Ka ib
and Khalil ibn Ahmad discussed heo e ical and p ac ical aspec s o music. La e , al-Fa abi, Ibn Sina
(A icenna), al-Khwa izmi, and Oma Khayyam con ibu ed signi ican ly o he de elopmen o
musical science by linking i o ma hema ics, logic, and physics.
Abu Nas al-Fa abi (871–950), a g ea philosophe and music heo is , is ega ded as he ounde o
Eas e n music heo y. His wo ks Ki ab al-Musiqi al-Kabi (“The G ea Book on Music”), Kalām ī
al-Musiqi (“T ea ise on he S yles o Music”), and Ki ab al-Ihsa’ al-Iqa’ (“Classi ica ion o Musical
Rhy hms”) laid he ounda ion o he heo e ical s udy o music in he Islamic wo ld.
Du ing he Timu id pe iod, he musical adi ion was u he de eloped by schola s such as Abd al-
Qadi Ma aghi, Abdu ahman Jami, Zayn al-Din al-Husayni, and Najmiddin Ka kabi. In his pe iod,
bo h heo e ical and empi ical app oaches o music we e combined, leading o he lou ishing o
musical science.
In he ea ly 20 h cen u y, he s udy o Uzbek music eached a new le el hanks o he e o s o
e o mis in ellec uals (Jadids) such as Fi a . His wo k “The Uzbek Classical Music and I s His o y”
emains a key sou ce o unde s anding he e olu ion o na ional music.
De elopmen o Uzbek Musical Schola ship in he Mode n E a
Sys ema ic no a ion and collec ion o Uzbek olk music began in he 1920s–1930s. Schola s such as
U. Uspensky, N. Mi ono , Ye. Romano skaya, I. Akba o , and V. Belyaye made signi ican
con ibu ions o documen ing and classi ying musical adi ions. Be ween 1955 and 1966, he
monumen al nine- olume collec ion “The Uzbek Folk Music” was published.

Rajabo , A. Jabbo o , O. Ma yoqubo , and o he s, whose esea ch helped sys ema ize he heo e ical

The Uzbek na ional musical he i age is a p iceless componen o ou cul u al and spi i ual iden i y. I
e lec s he mo al and emo ional expe iences o he na ion, uni es gene a ions, and se es as a means
o os e ing pa io ism, humani y, and c ea i i y.
