ABSTRACT

pe o mance. Howe e , a comp ehensi e e iew o M using bibliome ic analysis ha
ocused on M esea ch in highe educa ion has no been published. Following his
gap, he p esen s udy used quan i a i e bibliome ic app oaches o s a is ically and
objec i ely explo e esea ch publica ion pa e ns o M in highe educa ion. oS iewe
and Bibliome ix R-package we e used o analyse da a e ie ed om he Scopus
da abase. his analysis in ol ed se en indica o s such as highly ci ed pape s, p ominen
au ho s, co-au ho ship pa e ns among coun ies, in luen ial jou nals and coun ies,
hema ic mapping, eme ging ends, and bibliog aphic coupling. Resul s showed ha
M in highe educa ion is an e ol ing opic, wi h con ibu ions om schola s since
2006. i eme ged om his s udy ha opics such as leade ship, ec ui men , alen
a ac ion, alen de elopmen , alen e en ion, and employee engagemen a e inhe en
o M in highe educa ion. i is impo an o s udy he de elopmen o M esea ch in
highe educa ion and i s cha ac e is ics as his ype o analysis is s ill sca ce in he
li e a u e. he p esen s udy con ibu es o he li e a u e by p o iding he e olu ion o
his esea ch ield as well as helping schola s shape u u e wo k in his ield.

de eloping, engaging, e aining, and deploying alen s ha suppo o ganiza ions owa d sus ainable
success (galla do-galla do e al., 2020). he e m s a ed o gain he a en ion o p ac i ione s and schol-

amponsah- awiah, 2020). in he highe educa ion con ex , M is seen as a key enable o uni e si ies o
achie e hei mission and ision h ough human esou ces (B adley, 2016). acco dingly, M plays a key
ole in enhancing uni e si y pe o mance which leads o he imp o emen s o anking (Hazelko n, 2017;
Ramadi ya e  al., 2022).

galla do-galla do e  al. (2015) using da a ex ac ed om woS and Scopus. in a mo e ecen s udy,
Pagan-cas año e  al. (2022) pe o med a bibliome ic analysis o published M wo ks in he web o
Science da abase om 2003 o 2022. Despi e hese s udies, none we e ocused on M li e a u e pub-
lished in he con ex o highe educa ion.
acco dingly, a bibliome ic s udy ha analyses he s a e o he M li e a u e in highe educa ion is
needed o un eil he de elopmen o he ield so a , while iden i ying po en ial a eas o explo a ion.
his s udy con ibu es o he li e a u e especially ela ed o M in highe educa ion which has been
limi ed un il now as compa ed o o he con ex s (Mohammed e  al., 2019; Paisey & Paisey, 2018). his
s udy can o e aluable insigh s o schola s and p ac i ione s in human esou ce managemen and
highe educa ion o unde s and he de elopmen o M esea ch in he highe educa ion con ex .

3. Me hodology
3.1. Bibliome ic analysis
he cu en s udy employed bibliome ic analysis o disco e publica ion ends wi hin he Scopus da a-
base wi h a speci ic ocus on M in he highe educa ion con ex . Bibliome ic analysis is an inno a i e,
esea ch e alua ion me hodology ha has become popula among esea che s in bo h social and science
and echnology ields (ellegaa d & wallin, 2015). i allows he mapping o bibliome ic elemen s om a
la ge amoun o scien i ic da a in a quan i a i e manne (Dan ila-del- alle e  al., 2019). Don hu e  al.
(2021) highligh ed ha his igo ous me hod has become inc easingly popula in business esea ch. hey
u he explained ha he popula i y o bibliome ic analysis is due o he de elopmen , a ailabili y, and

3.2. Choosing he echniques o analysis
Da a in his s udy we e analyzed using he OS iewe so wa e and Bibliome ix R-package so wa e.
OS iewe is one o he so wa e ools used in bibliome ic esea ch o isualizing ne wo ks based on
se e al ypes o analysis such as ci a ion, co-au ho ship, bibliog aphic coupling, and co-ci a ion ela ions
(ahmi, 2021). compa ed o o he so wa e ools o bibliome ic mapping, OS iewe can iew maps ha
ha e a conside ably la ge numbe o i ems adequa ely ( an eck & wal man, 2010). in his s udy, we used
he OS iewe so wa e o display he mos p ominen au ho s, publica ions, coun ies, sou ces, and doc-
umen s based on hei ci a ion and publica ion coun s. i was also u ilized o isualize he in e na ional
collabo a ions among au ho s in ela ion o he coun ies o o igin o he a icles hey ha e au ho ed.
Mo eo e , his so wa e was used o bibliome ic coupling o explo e he ela ed hemes. Meanwhile,
Bibliome ix is ano he ool ha can be employed o p o ide a comp ehensi e mapping o scien i ic
li e a u e. i is p og ammed in R o enable lexible in eg a ion wi h o he s a is ical and g aphical pack-
ages (a ia & cuccu ullo, 2017). One o he ad an ages o his so wa e ool compa ed o oS iewe is i
enables esea che s o achie e p ecise, s a is ical comple eness o he esul s (De iş, 2019). in his s udy,
his so wa e ool was used o p esen he hema ic map and ending opics in M esea ch in highe
educa ion based on he keywo ds used in he a icles.
3.3. Da a collec ion
he i s s age o he s udy in ol ed he esea che s selec ing a da abase ha me he pu pose o he
s udy. common da abases used by esea che s o e ie e bibliog aphic da a include google Schola ,
Scopus, and woS. while some esea che s combine se e al da abases in hei bibliome ic analyses, he
cu en s udy ollowed he ecommenda ion by Don hu e  al. (2021) o use a single da abase o educe
edundan ac ion i ems ha may con ibu e o e o s on he esea che s’ pa .
Fo he s udy, da a we e ex ac ed as o augus 10, 2023, om he Scopus da abase. he esea che s
chose Scopus as he da abase is one o he mos dis inguished da abases globally (ahmi & Mohamad,
2019). Mo eo e , he da abase was pu pose ully chosen because i indexes a huge amoun o quali y
schola ly wo k and holds he mos in eg a ed co e age o pee - e iewed li e a u e in he ields o sci-
ences, echnology, medicine as well as social sciences and a s and humani ies (Scopus, 2023). in his
s udy, he esea che s did no se a ime limi o he da a sea ch o cap u e he e olu ion o M esea ch
in highe educa ion since he i s publica ion on he opic in Scopus. he da a collec ion p ocedu e is
summa ized in able 1.
4. Resul s
4.1. Sample cha ac e is ics

ions being less han i e each yea . Yea s 2013 un il 2018 indica ed esea ch on M in he highe edu-
ca ion con ex s a ed o ca ch he a en ion o mo e schola s despi e a d op in publica ions in 2015.
Howe e , he numbe o publica ions inc eased signi ican ly in 2019 and emained abo e en pe yea
since hen. O e he yea s, he yea 2022 was ound o be he mos p oduc i e wi h 24 a icles pub-
lished. Based on he able, i can be p ojec ed ha he yea 2023 may no be as indus ious as he
p e ious yea in e ms o publica ions, since he numbe o publica ions so a is 10 al hough 2023 has
al eady en e ed i s hi d qua ile.

wi h 60 ci a ions and D ies, n. om Belgium wi h 54 ci a ions. On he o he hand, in e ms o p oduc-
i i y, ghani, e.K. om Malaysia led wi h a o al o ou a icles, ollowed by hunnissen, M. and Mousa,
M. om Poland, wi h h ee a icles, espec i ely. Ou o he 51 coun ies ha ha e a minimum o one
documen published on his opic, he coun y ha con ibu ed he mos is Malaysia wi h 17 publica-
